Join us for our upcoming Introduction to Sketching and Drawing Workshop and discover how the simple skill of drawing can sharpen your observation, unlock your creativity and help bring ideas to life.

Why is sketching and drawing a valuable skill in a digital world?

Drawing teaches you to truly see. It encourages you to observe the world more closely, noticing the details, shapes and proportions you may otherwise overlook. This heightened ability to observe can strengthen problem-solving skills, improve visual communication and deepen your understanding of the world around you.

In a world increasingly filled with AI and CGI, the ability to put pencil to paper also brings something uniquely valuable: authenticity. A sketch captures the first evidence of an idea, helping to establish proof of concept before it develops into something more.

Welcome to the AMT Unit, Rassie!

PDTS has recently undergone some structural staff changes, and we are delighted to welcome Mr. Erasmus Adendorff to our Advanced Machining and Tooling (AMT) Unit.

With the workshop currently carrying a demanding workload, Erasmus (aka Rassie, as we know him) brings a wealth of multidisciplinary engineering experience from several fields to help us effectively carry the load. But his contribution extends far beyond his technical expertise. Rassie brings infectious energy, constant smiles, and some wonderfully weird daily interactions to the workshop floor!

Every high-performing mechanical system needs a good shock absorber, and Rassie's positive attitude is exactly the human element we need to help keep stress levels in check, morale high, and the daily grind a little more fun and manageable.

We are thrilled to have you as part of the team, Rassie. Welcome to the PDTS AMT Unit. We look forward to achieving great things together!

PDTS prototyping tools: From Design to functional prototypes with 3D printing.

As part of our medical device product development, we use the Formlabs Form 3B, UP Box+ and UP Mini 2 3D Printing machines as product development and prototyping tools.

They help us quickly:
• Evaluate form, fit and function
• Test ergonomics and design concepts
• Identify issues and iterate rapidly
• Produce prototypes, jigs and fixtures

By combining different 3D printing technologies, our engineers move efficiently through the design-build-evaluate cycle and make better-informed engineering decisions.

Faster iteration. Earlier learning. Better products.

We are excited to announce the collaboration between PDTS and the Department of Built Environment – DCT (Design and Construction Technology)! ✏️📐

Over the next two weeks, we will be facilitating intense four-hour sessions in Freehand Sketching and Drawing.

We believe that skills and knowledge are seeds—and we are excited to plant these seeds, nurture creativity, and see them bear creative fruit. 🌱🎨

Advancing Innovation Through Regional Collaboration

Supported by the Technology Innovation Agency (TIA), PDTS had the privilege of participating in the 9th SADC Industrialisation Week and Exhibition, held from 27–31 July 2026 at the Durban International Convention Centre (ICC).

Held under the theme "Resilient, Sustainable and Inclusive Industrialisation through Infrastructure Development, Agricultural and Critical Minerals Transformation in Pursuit of a Just World," the event brought together government representatives, industry leaders, policymakers, innovators, researchers, entrepreneurs, and development partners from across the SADC region.

The exhibition provided an opportunity to showcase PDTS's capabilities in product development, advanced manufacturing, and technology-driven solutions, while engaging with stakeholders, sharing knowledge, and exploring opportunities for collaboration and partnership development.

The event highlighted the importance of innovation, science and technology, and strong partnerships in accelerating sustainable industrialisation and strengthening regional value chains across Southern Africa.
We extend our sincere appreciation to TIA for the continued support and opportunity to participate in this important regional platform.

Together, we continue to advance innovation, technology, and industrial development across Southern Africa.

1. Did You Know?
Customers recognise colours before they read words.

Research shows that consistent use of brand colours increases recognition and helps customers remember your business.
PDTS Insight: Colour isn't decoration—it's communication.

2. Did You Know?
The strongest brands solve problems, not just sell products.

Customers buy solutions to challenges, not products alone. Successful branding clearly communicates the value your product brings.

3. Did You Know?
Consistency builds trust.

Using different logos, colours and messaging across platforms weakens your brand.
