International silver medalist Rorisang Mohlobuli from *Hoërskool Bloemfontein High School* is set to inspire the next generation of young scientists.

Look out for him on radio and TV this July, as SABC records interview clips to be aired during National Science Month (1–31 July), sharing his journey, insights, and passion for mathematics.

Celebrating National Science Month





Science, technology and innovation are for everyone!

National Science Month, an expansion of National Science Week, gives individuals and institutions a focused opportunity to interest South Africans in science, technology and innovation and show how they affect our lives.

We are calling everyone – science councils, industry, universities, schools, TVET colleges, and government departments from across the country – to join us and demonstrate their connection to science, technology and innovation

How to participate
Participation in National Science Month is voluntary, inclusive and flexible. We encourage creativity and self-driven activities, allowing everyone to contribute in line with their own interests and resources. For some ideas on how to get involved in your own way, please refer to the NSM Framework document.

National Science Month is more than a celebration of science; it is a national movement to bring science closer to society:
• Get involved. Lead an activity.
• Make an impact where you are, with what you have.
• Inspire others.

Last chance to take part in an Eskom Expo District Expo!

Additional District Expo dates have been added for the Bloemfontein Region in the Free State and the Capricorn Region in Limpopo.

District Expos are a compulsory step for learners who wish to qualify for the upcoming Regional Science Fairs. This is your opportunity to present your research project, receive valuable feedback from judges and selectors, and showcase your innovation.

To participate, learners must:
• Be in Grades 4 to 12 or enrolled in a TVET NC(V) Level 2-4 programme
• Have a completed research project within one of the 13 Eskom Expo categories
• Have all supporting research documentation
• Attend and present their project at their allocated District Expo

Learners who demonstrate substantial progress and present novel, well-developed research ideas may be selected to advance to the Regional Science Fairs.

Across South Africa, District Expos were recently hosted in 35 Eskom Expo regions, providing learners with a platform to showcase their research, refine their projects, and gain expert guidance from judges, selectors, and mentors.

The next step in the Eskom Expo journey is the Regional Science Fairs, where selected learners with strong, original research ideas and significant project development will continue their scientific exploration.

District Expos are designed to help learners grow, improve and strengthen their research projects through valuable one-on-one engagement with judges, mentors, teachers, Provincial Coordinators and Regional Science Fair Directors.

Remember: Participation in a District Expo is compulsory for learners who wish to qualify for a Regional Science Fair. These sessions provide important guidance on research methodology, experimental design and project presentation.

Tip for learners: Bring any collected data, photos, videos, journals or prototypes that can help explain your project clearly to judges.
