'There's a growing push for smarter design in the world’s public and private spaces and the Bird Street project in London is a potential model for future retail and lifestyle hubs.

The project includes one of Airlabs’ ClearAir benches that takes in air from behind, filters out harmful gases and emits clean air from its sides and armrests. The development also features Airlite paint that is designed to clean the air of nitrogen oxides, while breaking down bacteria and repelling dust.

It also introduced the world’s first pedestrian energy pavement, where kinetic tiles convert everyday footsteps into usable electricity for lights, sensors, and sound, turning walking into urban power.
Developed by Pavegen, each tile compresses slightly underfoot, generating a few joules per step that are stored or used instantly to run LED lighting, Bluetooth beacons, speakers, and footfall data systems, with even a ten square meter stretch capturing thousands of steps daily.'
