We are now facing a new set of challenges in our industry.
There is a distinct difference with regards to quality and price point between the following 3 repair options.

1- Emergency access - immediate solution
2- Temporary repair - mid-term solution
3- Permanent fix - long-term solution

As an experienced and competent Organization, we would always advise doing the job right the first-time so that the value over time is realized. Costs increase and the availability of good quality materials diminishes every week under the circumstances.

When we respond to desperate flood victims who are stressed, the tendency is for them to choose option 1 or 2 as they don't have the budget or time to make the right long-term decision.

These knee-jerk decisions damage our reputation sometime in the future when the crisis subsidies and the temporary repair is simply not good enough.

The right solution in my opinion is for Super Digger Group to be appointed by government immediately, then deployed into our local district to attend to any inquiries as soon as possible.

Yesterday was a sunny day in KZN so we dispatched 4 machines into the area to attend to calls for help.
We opened up the D786 and D535 roads in Cliffdale so we could get to Sue's livery, unfortunately the wash away was too deep for us to even get a temporary access through to her 30 horses on the other side.
We then started removing the silt and mud under the bridge on the D732 in Inchanga. Halfway through, a Department of transport inspector arrived and said that they would be sending machines to clear the rest of the blockage so we moved on to help Kay at the Peacevale Animal Lodge who's bridge was badly damaged.

Still no funding in sight.
We need diesel and materials to continue...

After receiving countless calls for help over the Easter weekend I have decided to offer our brand new 4x4 TLB out to assist anyone within a 30km radius of Hillcrest KZN for free.
As tomorrow, Monday the 18th of April is a public holiday, I will not have any staff at work so I will drive the machine myself. (No lowbed available either)

It would be preferable for me to use the time to open up access roads to unreachable areas so as to maximize the value.
