β˜€οΈπŸ˜‚ **THE SOLAR CONFESSIONALS β€” DAY 4 OF 10** # # 🏠 β€œMY NEIGHBOUR HAS A 5 kW SYSTEM… SO THAT'S ALL I NEED, RIGHT?”Ah yes...
21/10/2026

β˜€οΈπŸ˜‚ **THE SOLAR CONFESSIONALS β€” DAY 4 OF 10**

# # 🏠 β€œMY NEIGHBOUR HAS A 5 kW SYSTEM… SO THAT'S ALL I NEED, RIGHT?”

Ah yes.

The famous South African solar-sizing method:

**β€œIf it works for the oke next door, it'll work for me!”** πŸ˜‚

Your neighbour has:

β˜€οΈ 8 solar panels
⚑ A 5 kW inverter
πŸ”‹ A battery

And apparently, life is wonderful.

So you decide:

β€œBrilliant! I'll get exactly the same system.”

But wait a minute… πŸ‘€

Your neighbour has one geyser.

You have two.

Your neighbour works at the office all day.

You work from home.

Your neighbour has a gas stove.

You have an electric stove, oven and air fryer.

Your neighbour switches off the aircon at night.

You sleep like you're living in Antarctica. πŸ₯ΆπŸ˜‚

**And you both expect the same solar system to do the same job?**

Good luck with that!

# # # β˜€οΈ HERE'S THE TRUTH

There is no universal solar system that suits every home.

Two houses can look identical from the street but have completely different electricity requirements.

Before sizing a system, you need to consider:

⚑ **Electricity consumption** β€” how much energy you use.

⏰ **Usage patterns** β€” when you use it.

πŸ”‹ **Battery requirements** β€” how much backup you actually need.

β˜€οΈ **Solar generation** β€” how much energy the panels can produce at your location.

βš™οΈ **Inverter capacity** β€” which appliances need to operate together.

🏠 **Your appliances** β€” especially energy-hungry equipment such as geysers, stoves and air conditioning.

# # # 🏒 AND BUSINESSES?

The same principle applies.

A small office, a restaurant and a workshop can have very different energy requirements.

The right system should be designed around the business's operating hours, equipment, electricity consumption and backup needs.

**Copying someone else's system is easy. Getting the right system takes proper planning.** πŸ˜‰

# # # πŸ˜‚ CONFESSION TIME!

Which one sounds most like you?

πŸ…°οΈ **β€œMy neighbour has solar, so I'll just copy his system!”**

πŸ…±οΈ **β€œI want the biggest system possible. No questions asked!”**

πŸ…²οΈ **β€œI want the cheapest system that can run everything!”**

πŸ…³οΈ **β€œLet's check my electricity usage and size it properly.”**

πŸ‘‡ Comment **A, B, C or D!**

Tag someone who's planning to buy solar because their neighbour recommended a system. πŸ˜‚

20/10/2026

β˜€οΈπŸ˜‚ **THE SOLAR CONFESSIONALS β€” DAY 3 OF 10**

# # πŸ”‹ β€œI BOUGHT A BATTERY… SO WHY IS THE POWER STILL GOING OFF?”

You've invested in solar.

You've got panels on the roof.

You've got a battery.

You've got an inverter.

You sit back, smile, and think:

**β€œGoodbye, power problems!”** 😎

Then the lights go out.

The Wi-Fi dies.

The TV goes black.

And suddenly you're standing in the dark asking your inverter questions like it's a suspect in a police interrogation. πŸ˜‚

**β€œEXPLAIN YOURSELF!”** πŸ”¦

# # # πŸ•΅οΈ SO… WHAT WENT WRONG?

Before you blame the battery, let's investigate.

πŸ”‹ **1. THE BATTERY MAY BE TOO SMALL**

A battery stores a certain amount of energy. If your household uses that energy quickly, it won't last as long as you expect.

⚑ **2. THE INVERTER MAY BE OVERLOADED**

Your battery might still have energy available, but if the combined power demand exceeds what the inverter can supply, it may trip or shut down.

β˜€οΈ **3. THE BATTERY MAY NOT HAVE CHARGED FULLY**

Cloudy weather, high daytime consumption or insufficient solar production can leave less stored energy for the evening.

πŸ”Œ **4. NOT EVERYTHING MAY BE CONNECTED TO BACKUP**

Some installations only supply selected circuits during an outage. Your lights might stay on while other plugs or appliances go off.

πŸ”§ **5. THERE MAY BE A CONFIGURATION OR EQUIPMENT ISSUE**

Battery settings, protection limits, wiring or a fault could also be responsible.

# # # 🏠 FOR HOMEOWNERS

The important question isn't simply:

**β€œHow big is my battery?”**

It's:

**β€œHow much energy do I use, how quickly do I use it, and which appliances must keep running?”**

# # # 🏒 FOR BUSINESSES

The same principle applies, but the consequences can be bigger.

Refrigeration, computers, security systems and production equipment may have different backup priorities.

A properly designed system starts by identifying those critical loads and understanding their power requirements.

# # # β˜€οΈ THE BOTTOM LINE

A battery doesn't automatically mean unlimited backup.

The inverter, battery capacity, solar production, connected circuits and your actual electricity usage all matter.

**The goal isn't just to install a battery. It's to install a system that does the job you expect it to do.**

# # # πŸ˜‚ CONFESSION TIME!

Have you ever bought something to solve a problem… only to discover there's another problem?

πŸ…°οΈ Yes! That's why I have a drawer full of cables. πŸ˜‚

πŸ…±οΈ My solar system works perfectly! β˜€οΈ

β˜€οΈπŸ˜‚ **THE SOLAR CONFESSIONALS β€” DAY 2 OF 10**

# # πŸ”‹ β€œWE HAVE SOLAR… BUT NOBODY IS ALLOWED TO USE THE KETTLE!”

🀣 **PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS HOUSEHOLD POLICY!**

You know the house.

The solar panels are on the roof.

The batteries are charged.

The sun is shining.

But the moment someone walks towards the kettle…

🚨 **β€œWAIT! IS THE SUN OUT?”**

Someone wants to make coffee.

β€œCan't you wait until the battery is at 100%?”

Someone switches on the microwave.

β€œWHO SWITCHED THAT ON?!”

And heaven forbid someone uses the air fryer while the washing machine is running. πŸ˜‚

Suddenly, the whole family is living like they're on an electricity survival show.

**Welcome to Solar Survivor: Household Edition.** β˜•πŸ€£

# # # β˜€οΈ HERE'S THE TRUTH…

Solar should make your life easier β€” not turn every cup of tea into a board meeting.

But your system does have limits.

⚑ **The inverter** determines how much power can run at the same time.

πŸ”‹ **The battery** determines how much stored energy is available for later.

β˜€οΈ **The panels** generate electricity when sunlight is available.

🏠 **Your usage habits** influence how effectively you use that energy.

A kettle might only run for a few minutes, but it draws a relatively high amount of power while it's heating.

That doesn't automatically mean you can't use it on solar.

It means your system needs to be designed around your actual loads and how you use them.

And yes, running heavy appliances during the day can help you make better use of solar generation when conditions allow.

# # # 🏠 FOR HOMEOWNERS

The goal isn't to spend your day switching everything off.

It's to understand your energy use and choose a system that fits your household.

# # # 🏒 FOR BUSINESSES

The same principle applies.

Understanding when equipment operates can help you match solar production to demand and make better decisions about battery storage.

**Good solar design should give you more control β€” not more household arguments.** πŸ˜‚

# # # πŸ‘‡ CONFESSION TIME!

What's the rule in YOUR house?

πŸ…°οΈ **β€œUse whatever you want β€” that's why we bought solar!”** β˜€οΈ

β˜€οΈπŸ˜‚ **THE SOLAR CONFESSIONALS β€” DAY 1 OF 10**

# # ⚑ β€œI'LL GET SOLAR WHEN MY ELECTRICITY BILL GETS TOO HIGH.”

**FAMOUS LAST WORDS.** πŸ˜‚

Meet our first suspect.

Every month, the electricity bill arrives.

πŸ“„ January: β€œAg, it's not that bad.”

πŸ“„ February: β€œOkay, that's a bit much.”

πŸ“„ March: β€œSurely this can't be right?”

πŸ“„ April: β€œWHO'S RUNNING A WELDING MACHINE IN THIS HOUSE?!” 😳

Sound familiar?

And then comes the classic South African response:

**β€œWe'll look at solar next month.”**

Six months later…

The electricity bill is still arriving.

And somehow, the geyser is now the prime suspect in a household investigation. πŸ˜‚

# # # β˜€οΈ HERE'S THE THING…

Solar isn't only something to consider when your electricity bill becomes unbearable.

It's something worth investigating when you want to take better control of your energy costs.

🏠 **FOR HOMEOWNERS**

A properly designed solar system can help you:

β˜€οΈ Generate your own electricity.

πŸ’° Reduce the amount of electricity you purchase from the grid.

πŸ”‹ Store energy for later use, where batteries are included.

⚑ Provide backup power for selected loads during outages.

🏒 **FOR BUSINESS OWNERS**

The opportunity can be even more interesting.

If your business uses significant electricity during daylight hours, solar could help offset some of that consumption while you're operating.

That means electricity for things like:

❄️ Air conditioning

🧊 Refrigeration

βš™οΈ Machinery

πŸ’‘ Lighting

πŸ’» Office equipment

And here's the important part:

**You don't need to wait for an electricity crisis to investigate solar.**

You need to understand your electricity usage, what you want to achieve and whether the investment makes financial sense.

Because solar isn't about buying the biggest system.

**It's about buying the RIGHT system.**

# # # πŸ˜‚ CONFESSION TIME!

Have you ever opened your electricity bill and immediately started questioning everyone in the house?

πŸ‘‡ **BE HONEST!**

πŸ…°οΈ Yes! Everyone becomes a suspect. πŸ˜‚

πŸ…±οΈ No, I already know it's the geyser.

πŸ•΅οΈβ˜€οΈ **SOLAR DETECTIVE β€” CASE #10**

# # 🏠 THE HOUSE WITH AN ELECTRIC STOVE!

Today's homeowner has a question that could spark a little debate. πŸ˜‚

They want solar and battery backup, but they love cooking.

And they have one important requirement:

**β€œWhen the power goes out, I still want to cook dinner!”** 🍳

Fair enough!

But how should we design the system?

# # # πŸ”Ž THE CASE FILE

🏠 A family home

🚿 An electric geyser

🍳 An electric stove and oven

❄️ Air conditioning

🧊 A fridge and freezer

πŸ’‘ Lights, TVs, Wi-Fi and everyday appliances

πŸ”‹ The homeowner wants backup during outages.

β˜€οΈ They also want to make better use of solar energy during the day.

Then comes the big question:

> **β€œCan my solar system run the whole house, including the stove?”**

πŸ•΅οΈ Detective, it's time to investigate!

# # # πŸ€” WHAT WOULD YOU RECOMMEND?

πŸ…°οΈ **A bigger inverter**

The system needs enough power to handle the appliances running together.

πŸ…±οΈ **A bigger battery**

More stored energy means longer backup, provided the inverter can handle the load.

πŸ…²οΈ **A dedicated essential-loads backup system**

Prioritise lights, refrigeration, Wi-Fi and selected plugs, while managing heavier appliances separately.

πŸ…³οΈ **Assess the actual loads before deciding**

Check the stove rating, geyser, aircon, simultaneous demand, solar production and backup expectations.

**Choose A, B, C or D!**

Tell us your answer in the comments.

And if you've followed all ten cases, let's hear from you! πŸ•΅οΈ

# # # πŸ”Ž TODAY'S CLUE

An electric stove can draw significant power, especially when several cooking zones and the oven are operating together.

That doesn't automatically mean it cannot run on solar.

But it does mean we need to consider:

⚑ **Inverter capacity:** Can it handle the appliances running at the same time?

πŸ”‹ **Battery capacity:** Is there enough stored energy for the required duration?

β˜€οΈ **Solar production:** Can daytime generation support the loads and recharge the battery?

🏠 **Load management:** Can heavy appliances be scheduled or prioritised sensibly?

# # # THE BIG LESSON FROM SOLAR DETECTIVE

There is no universal system that suits every home or business.

The best design depends on the customer's electricity consumption, operating patterns, equipment, backup requirements and budget.

**Don't size a system by guesswork. Size it around the job it needs to do.**

That's how you start making informed decisions about solar.

# # πŸͺ THE RETAIL STORE WITH A BIG DAYTIME ELECTRICITY BILL!

Today's customer owns a busy retail store.

The doors open.

The lights come on.

The air conditioning starts working.

The tills begin ringing.

And the electricity meter?

**It's having a very productive day too.** πŸ˜‚

# # # πŸ”Ž THE CASE FILE

πŸ’» Computers and point-of-sale systems are in use.

🧊 Refrigeration operates continuously.

πŸ’° The owner wants to reduce electricity costs.

πŸ”‹ Backup power is also important for essential equipment.

Here's the interesting part…

# # # β˜€οΈ THE STORE USES MOST OF ITS ELECTRICITY WHILE THE SUN IS UP.

That could make solar worth investigating.

But how should we approach the system?

# # # πŸ•΅οΈ WHAT WOULD YOU INVESTIGATE FIRST?

πŸ…°οΈ **Install a massive battery bank.**

Store as much energy as possible for later.

πŸ…±οΈ **Install solar panels to match the store's daytime consumption.**

Generate electricity while the business is operating.

πŸ…²οΈ **Install the biggest inverter available.**

It's a business, so bigger must be better!

πŸ…³οΈ **Analyse the load profile, roof space and backup requirements first.**

Understand the numbers before choosing equipment.

# # # πŸ€” YOUR MISSION

**Choose A, B, C or D!**

Comment your answer below. πŸ‘‡

Let's see who can solve this case.

# # # πŸ”Ž TODAY'S CLUE

A business that uses plenty of electricity during daylight hours may be able to use solar energy as it is generated.

That can be valuable because:

β˜€οΈ Solar can help power daytime operations.

πŸ’° Using solar directly may reduce electricity purchased from the grid.

πŸ”‹ Batteries can provide storage and backup where appropriate.

⚑ The inverter must suit the loads and system design.

But there's a catch…

**Not every unit of solar energy automatically becomes a saving.**

The actual benefit depends on how much energy the store consumes while solar is producing, the electricity tariff, system costs and whether surplus energy can be used or exported.

And refrigeration, security systems and other essential loads may still need power after closing time.

# # # **THE SMART MOVE?**

Understand the store's electricity consumption first.

Then design the solar system around its actual operating pattern.

Because the best solution isn't necessarily the one with the biggest battery or the most panels.

**It's the one that makes sense for the business.**

πŸ•΅οΈβ˜€οΈ **SOLAR DETECTIVE β€” CASE #8**

# # 🏭 THE BUSINESS THAT NEVER SLEEPS!

Some businesses close at 5 PM.

This one doesn't even know what 5 PM means. πŸ˜‚

Welcome to today's case!

# # # πŸ”Ž THE CASE FILE

Our customer runs a business operating **24 hours a day, 7 days a week**.

🏭 Production equipment runs around the clock.

❄️ Refrigeration must stay on.

πŸ’‘ Lighting is needed day and night.

βš™οΈ Machinery operates in shifts.

⚑ Interruptions can affect productivity.

πŸ’° Electricity is a major operating expense.

The owner wants solar to reduce grid consumption and improve energy resilience.

But there's a catch…

# # # β˜€οΈ THE SUN DOESN'T WORK NIGHT SHIFTS!

Solar production falls after sunset.

The business, however, keeps running.

So how should we approach this challenge?

# # # πŸ•΅οΈ WHAT WOULD YOU INVESTIGATE FIRST?

πŸ…°οΈ **Install as many solar panels as possible.**

Generate as much energy as we can during daylight.

πŸ…±οΈ **Install a massive battery bank.**

Store enough energy to power the entire business overnight.

πŸ…²οΈ **Analyse the business's load profile and critical equipment.**

Understand daytime consumption, nighttime demand, peak loads and which equipment cannot stop.

πŸ…³οΈ **Forget solar. A 24-hour business can't benefit from it.**

The sun goes down, so what's the point?

# # # πŸ€” WHAT'S YOUR ANSWER?

Comment **A, B, C or D** below!

Let's see how our Solar Detectives think. πŸ‘‡

# # # πŸ”Ž TODAY'S CLUE

A business that operates 24/7 doesn't necessarily need to run entirely on batteries at night.

The right approach starts with understanding its energy use.

We need to investigate:

πŸ“Š **Daytime versus nighttime consumption**

⚑ **Peak demand and equipment starting loads**

β˜€οΈ **Available solar generation**

πŸ”‹ **Battery requirements for critical loads**

🏭 **Which processes must run continuously**

πŸ’° **The cost of electricity and the investment**

Depending on the business, solar may help offset daytime consumption while batteries support selected loads or provide backup.

The grid, where available, can also remain part of the energy strategy.

And for some operations, a carefully designed combination of solar, batteries and grid power can make more sense than trying to run everything from batteries.

# # # **THE BIG LESSON?**

Don't size a commercial solar system just by looking at the electricity bill.

**Understand the business first. Design the system second.**

Because a factory, cold-storage facility and office building can have very different energy requirementsβ€”even if their bills look similar.

# # # πŸ‘‡ BUSINESS OWNERS:

If your business could reduce one electricity expense, which would you investigate first?

πŸ•΅οΈ Detective… we have a problem.

Because keeping the lights on is one thing.

Running geysers, air conditioners, cooking appliances and pool equipment at the same time is a completely different challenge!

# # # πŸ€” WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

πŸ…°οΈ **Install a bigger inverter.**

More power should solve everything, right?

πŸ…±οΈ **Install a bigger battery.**

More storage means everything can run longer.

πŸ…²οΈ **Install more solar panels.**

More sunshine should do the trick.

πŸ…³οΈ **Investigate the loads and prioritise what needs backup.**

Work out the starting power, running loads, battery requirements and what can be scheduled or switched off.

# # # πŸ•΅οΈ YOUR MISSION

**Choose A, B, C or D.**

Comment your answer below before checking what everyone else thinks! πŸ‘‡

# # # πŸ”Ž TODAY'S CLUE

Three different things matter:

⚑ **Inverter capacity:** How much power can run at the same time?

πŸ”‹ **Battery capacity:** How much energy is available, and for how long?

β˜€οΈ **Solar generation:** How much energy can the panels produce to power loads and recharge the batteries?

A bigger battery cannot fix an undersized inverter.

More panels cannot guarantee enough power at night.

And a large inverter doesn't automatically provide hours of backup.

**The entire system has to work together.**

Sometimes, the smartest solution is to prioritise essential loads and run heavy appliances during the day.

Even the sun has a budget. πŸ˜‚
