The Challenge. Sea Water Filter Protective coating.
A steel salt water filter aboard a container vessel was suffering from significant internal corrosion due to prolonged exposure to high chloride process water. The client needed to refurbish the salt water filter in situ with a solution that would not only stop corrosion but also withstand erosion and impact from high levels of suspended solids.

Additionally, elevated humidity during application posed challenges for traditional coating systems, prompting the need for a moisture tolerant material.

The Resimac Solution.
The salt water filter was flushed with fresh water to remove soluble salts. Surface preparation was carried out using a bristle blaster. Once complete the team then applied two coats of Resimac 208 Ceramic UW by hand using a brush and roller. The product’s moisture tolerant formulation enabled successful application despite ambient humidity and limited ventilation.

A two-component flexiblised solvent-free epoxy coating. The product has been designed to be applied to metallic and concrete surfaces underwater or at the waterline where only manual or mechanical surface preparation can be performed. Once cured the material will give outstanding protection from salt water corrosion and abrasion. The product cures at 5°C (41°F) and is applied in a single coat at 750 microns to 1mm (40mil) thickness.

Protecting concrete containment areas and steel structures in a severe chemical-service environment.

At a U.S. manufacturing site, damaged concrete and associated steelwork required refurbishment for potential contact with sulphuric acid concentrations up to 93%.

Loose concrete was removed and rebuilt with Resimac 570 XF. Porous concrete was primed with 503 SPEP, with glass-fibre reinforcement incorporated at drains and outlets. Prepared surfaces were then protected with two coats of 511 UCEN to a nominal total dry film thickness of 800 microns.

The Chemical Plant Pump Impeller Challenge.
A major industrial chemical facility, faced a critical operational crisis. when a high-performance pump impeller failed during a chemical processing cycle. After contacting the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), the client was informed that the specific part of the impeller had been declared obsolete, therefore procuring an up-to-date equivalent and modifying the existing system would have required a twenty-six-week lead time, resulting in six months of disastrous production downtime and substantial revenue loss.

The Chemical Plant Pump Impeller Repair Solution.
To mitigate this downtime, a meticulousness reclamation strategy was implemented to salvage and rebuild the original pump impeller. The rebuild began with abrasive blasting to ensure a clean, profiled substrate for maximum adhesion. Structural integrity was restored by embedding stainless steel mesh into Resimac 106 Metal Repair Paste XF, providing immediate reinforcement to splintered areas.

The complex internal geometry was then fully reprofiled using Resimac 101 Metal Repair Paste, a high-strength material capable of withstanding intense mechanical stress. Lastly, the entire pump impeller was encased in two coats of Resimac 511 UCEN, a high build novolac coating engineered to provide a superior barrier against aggressive chemical attack and abrasion.
