🎉 Congratulations to Nirvesh and Chuma on their latest Microsoft achievements! 🎉

We are proud to celebrate the accomplishments of two members of the African Ideas team who continue to demonstrate our commitment to learning, growth, and excellence.

Chuma Mhaga, one of our junior developers, has successfully passed the Microsoft DP-100: Designing and Implementing a Data Science Solution on Azure certification. This is a significant milestone and reflects both his dedication and his growing expertise in the fields of data science and AI.

Congratulations, Chuma! We look forward to seeing you build on this achievement and, most importantly, apply your knowledge to create value for our clients and colleagues.

A special mention must also go to our Director, Nirvesh Sooful, who recently earned the Microsoft Certified AI Leader certification. It is always encouraging when leaders continue to invest in their own learning—and perhaps even more impressive when they can still keep ahead of the rest of the team! 😊

At African Ideas, we believe that investing in our people is essential. We are committed to identifying, developing, and nurturing talent, ensuring that our staff have the skills, knowledge, and support needed to deliver exceptional outcomes for our clients.

Every certification earned represents more than a personal achievement—it strengthens our collective capability and enhances the value we bring to every project we undertake.

Congratulations once again, Chuma and Nirvesh. We are proud of your achievements and look forward to seeing what comes next.

We are delighted to share that Devlin Sooful, Head of Automation at African Ideas, has been recognised as a Microsoft FastTrack Recognized Solution Architect (FTRSA). View Devlin's Microsoft FastTrack Recognized Solution Architect profile here:https://ftrsa.microsoft.com/architects/profile/?userid=2751f55e-530b-f111-8406-7c1e525b1633

The FTRSA programme is an elite global community of Microsoft solution architects who have demonstrated exceptional technical expertise, leadership, and a proven track record of delivering customer success across the Microsoft Power Platform and Dynamics 365 ecosystem. As of 2025, only 174 individuals worldwide had achieved this distinction.

As far as we can determine, Devlin is not only among the youngest professionals to receive this recognition, but also the first person on the African continent to join this prestigious community.

This is a tremendous achievement for Devlin and a proud moment for all of us at African Ideas. It reflects both his extraordinary dedication and our ongoing commitment to identifying, developing, and nurturing local talent.

It is remarkable to think that just six years ago Devlin was an unemployed graduate. Through a combination of vision, opportunity, hard work, and perseverance, he has built an exceptional career and earned recognition among the very best in his field.

A significant contributor to this achievement has been Devlin's outstanding work with the Western Cape Government, where he has played a pivotal role in delivering innovative solutions. At the same time, he has broadened his experience through engagements with valued clients and partners including Akhile Digital, Aizatron, Care Research UK, Solution Out Ireland, and others.

Everyone at African Ideas is incredibly proud of Devlin. He represents the very best of what young African professionals can achieve through talent, determination, and excellence.

Congratulations, Devlin — this recognition is richly deserved, and we look forward to seeing what you achieve next.

It is with mixed feelings that The Baobab bid farewell to our Head of Maintenance, Joel Chiyangwa, on 30 June 2026. Joel has been part of The Baobab family since May 2019, and we will miss him greatly. While we are sad to see him leave, he has left to start his own business, so we join him in his excitement about this. We wish him every success in his new venture, and look forward to watching him grow as an entrepreneur.

We also welcomed Nqobile Dhlamini on 1 July 2026. He has replaced Joel as our Head of Maintenance. We wish Nqobile everything of the best as he joins our Baobab team.

On 21 May 2026, African Ideas, in partnership with Microsoft, concluded the City of Cape Town’s Microsoft Power Platform Enablement Programme at the Microsoft Cape Town offices.

Delivered over eight months, from October 2025 to May 2026, the programme focused on laying the foundation for a scalable and governed citizen development capability within the City. Through the programme, African Ideas supported the City in developing its Power Platform Strategy and Roadmap, introducing practical use cases, and enabling an initial cohort of citizen developers across key departments.

The programme was built around a simple but powerful idea: empowering the people closest to the work to build solutions that matter.

The final workshop brought together representatives from the City’s IS&T, CPPPM, Corporate PMO, Energy, and HR departments, alongside leaders from African Ideas and Microsoft. The session showcased working solutions, encouraged hands-on collaboration, and demonstrated how low-code tools can support faster, smarter, and more inclusive service delivery.

This milestone marks the transition from foundational enablement to broader implementation, supported by a governed citizen development model, a future Centre of Excellence, and a growing Community of Practice.

African Ideas is proud to have partnered with Microsoft and the City of Cape Town on this important step in advancing digital transformation, innovation, and capability-building across local government.

A special thank you to everyone who contributed to making this engagement a success. From our sponsor, Microsoft, to our partners at the City of Cape Town, and the African Ideas team, this milestone reflects the power of collaboration, shared vision, and commitment to digital transformation.

Together, we have laid a strong foundation for the next phase of citizen development and innovation within the City of Cape Town.

Driving Digital Innovation Through Collaboration

On the 5th of March 2026, African Ideas recently facilitated a Power Platform Strategy and Roadmap Workshop as part of an ongoing digital enablement initiative aimed at exploring how low-code technologies can support organisational innovation and service delivery.

Hosted at the Microsoft offices in Cape Town, the session brought together key technology and business stakeholders to build a shared understanding of Microsoft’s integrated technology stack and the capabilities of the Power Platform.

The workshop focused on exploring how low-code tools can help organizations modernize applications, automate processes, and accelerate the development of digital solutions, while maintaining strong governance and security.

Through interactive discussions and working sessions, participants identified practical use cases and opportunities where the platform could support immediate operational priorities and longer-term digital transformation goals.

At African Ideas, we are proud to partner with leading organizations to enable innovation, strengthen digital capability, and support the development of scalable technology strategies that deliver real impact.
