On 21 May 2026, African Ideas, in partnership with Microsoft, concluded the City of Cape Town’s Microsoft Power Platform Enablement Programme at the Microsoft Cape Town offices.
Delivered over eight months, from October 2025 to May 2026, the programme focused on laying the foundation for a scalable and governed citizen development capability within the City. Through the programme, African Ideas supported the City in developing its Power Platform Strategy and Roadmap, introducing practical use cases, and enabling an initial cohort of citizen developers across key departments.
The programme was built around a simple but powerful idea: empowering the people closest to the work to build solutions that matter.
The final workshop brought together representatives from the City’s IS&T, CPPPM, Corporate PMO, Energy, and HR departments, alongside leaders from African Ideas and Microsoft. The session showcased working solutions, encouraged hands-on collaboration, and demonstrated how low-code tools can support faster, smarter, and more inclusive service delivery.
This milestone marks the transition from foundational enablement to broader implementation, supported by a governed citizen development model, a future Centre of Excellence, and a growing Community of Practice.
African Ideas is proud to have partnered with Microsoft and the City of Cape Town on this important step in advancing digital transformation, innovation, and capability-building across local government.
A special thank you to everyone who contributed to making this engagement a success. From our sponsor, Microsoft, to our partners at the City of Cape Town, and the African Ideas team, this milestone reflects the power of collaboration, shared vision, and commitment to digital transformation.
Together, we have laid a strong foundation for the next phase of citizen development and innovation within the City of Cape Town.
