🌍 International Day of the African Child

Did you know? Africa is the youngest continent in the world, with around 60% of its population under the age of 25.

💡 Behind every great scientist, engineer, teacher or innovator is a child who was encouraged to ask questions, explore new ideas and dream big.

🔬 Today's students will become tomorrow's researchers, healthcare professionals or technology leaders. Their ideas and discoveries will help shape Africa's future and contribute to solving global challenges.

📚 The International Day of the African Child is a reminder of the importance of education and equal opportunities for young people across the continent.

✹ By investing in education, science and innovation, we invest in the next generation of changemakers who will help build a brighter future for Africa and the world.

🌐 Together into the Quantum Future!

BRICS Quantum Technologies Forum was held in Moscow for the first time, bringing together scientists from Russia, South Africa, China, India and Brazil to exchange ideas and discuss future cooperation.

⚛ The joint development of quantum technologies can help accelerate innovation and unlock new opportunities across a wide range of industries, including nuclear energy.

💡 International cooperation in this field can also make advanced technologies more accessible, strengthen technological capabilities and create new opportunities for knowledge exchanging between scientists from different countries.

đŸ€ Following the forum, participants issued a joint statement reaffirming their commitment to continued cooperation: “Together, we are committed to ensuring sustainable technological progress in the BRICS countries.”

🌍 As South Africa contributes to this international scientific dialogue, the forum highlights the growing importance of collaboration and knowledge exchange in shaping the technologies of the future.

🌍 World Environment Day

Africa is home to some of the world’s most magnificent natural wonders – from expansive forests and rivers to deserts and wildlife found nowhere else on Earth. The continent holds nearly 25% of the planet’s biodiversity, underscoring the critical importance of environmental conservation.

💧 Did you know that almost two-thirds of the population in Sub-Saharan Africa depend on groundwater as their primary drinking source? This fact highlights why the sustainable management of water resources is more crucial than ever.

đŸŒ± Scientific innovation plays a vital role in understanding our planet, protecting ecosystems, and using natural resources responsibly. Nuclear science and technology in return empower researchers to track groundwater, improve crop resilience, minimize food waste, and support safer food storage.

Protecting nature means protecting people. Together, we can build a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable future for Africa and the entire world.

🔎 Building for the Future, Discovering the PastâšĄïž

During the construction of the new units at the Sizewell nuclear power plant in the UK, workers stumbled upon an unexpected treasure: a hoard of 321 silver coins, minted between 1036 and 1044💰

đŸ’Œ Experts believe the stash belonged to a farmer or trader. The coins were buried during the reign of Edward the Confessor, a time of great instability in England.

đŸȘ™đŸȘ™About 40% of the coins were minted in London, with the rest originating from over 30 other English cities. A true glimpse into medieval trade and history!

đŸ€“ Fun fact: back then, it was enough to buy 16 cows🐄

🌍 Tanzania delegation visited the ATOM museum

A government delegation from the United Republic of Tanzania recently visited the ATOM Museum – an exhibition complex in Moscow dedicated to the nuclear industry, opened with the support of Rosatom.

⚛ The guests explored the history of nuclear science and discovered how nuclear technologies have evolved over time to become more advanced, efficient and environmentally friendly. The delegation also learned about the many peaceful applications of nuclear technologies, including healthcare, industry and scientific research.

The guests showed great interest in the museum’s interactive exhibits and gained new insights into the role of nuclear technologies in improving everyday life.

đŸ€ We are always delighted to share knowledge and strengthen international cooperation through science and education.

🌍 Rosatom at Enlit Africa 2026

From 19 to 21 May, representatives of the energy sector gathered in Cape Town to discuss the future of power generation and nuclear development across the continent.

⚛ During the “Africa Nuclear Forward” plenary session, CEO of Rosatom Central and Southern Africa Ryan Collyer shared insights from Egypt’s El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant – currently the most advanced nuclear project under construction in Africa. Earlier, the energy company Eskom stated that it plans to sign contracts for the construction of new nuclear power stations by early 2028.

💡 Discussions focused on practical approaches to nuclear energy that are relevant for African countries, including localisation strategies, financing mechanisms for first-of-a-kind projects, the creation of local nuclear supply chains and approaches to maintaining construction timelines.

đŸ€ Participants also explored ways to strengthen public trust in nuclear energy and support the deployment of proven and commercially viable technologies.
