Electricity and water don't usually make a good combination, but at this water treatment facility in Paarl, it’s a match!

This installation makes full use of the available rooftop space with a ballast-mounted solar system. Rather than penetrating the roof structure, the entire system is securely held in place using specially designed weighted ballast blocks, creating a clean and efficient installation. From an aerial view, the finished result is something we're incredibly proud of.

One of the standout achievements on this project was producing every one of the 50+ ballast blocks in-house. Our team cast, poured, cured, transported, and installed each block ourselves. Having complete control over this process allowed us to improve quality, streamline the installation, and significantly reduce project timelines.

The Men Who Make It Happen

Today, we want to take a moment to recognize the people who make our projects a reality.

Last week, Errol Dorman travelled upcountry to visit several of our key utility-scale projects. It was a valuable opportunity not only to see the progress on site, but also to reconnect with the dedicated teams behind these outstanding installations.

A special congratulations goes to two of our Project Managers, Julian and Wayne, who continue to deliver some of the largest and most technically demanding projects Dorman Energy has undertaken.
Their journey within the company is something to be proud of.

Both started as tool handlers and, through hard work, commitment, and continuous development, qualified as electricians before progressing into Project Manager roles. Today, they lead some of the biggest installation teams in the business and play a key role in delivering projects to the highest standard.

Although this photo features Julian and Wayne, we would also like to recognize the incredible contributions of Abdul, Tumi, Calvyn, and Ernest.

Your dedication, leadership, and work ethic have not gone unnoticed. We are incredibly proud of everything you have achieved and look forward to seeing what comes next.

Find out why there guys are the best of the best !

Shots Powered by Watts ☕⚡

It's no secret that your morning coffee gives you the boost you need to start the day. But what if the coffee shop itself was powered by the sun?

With more people on the move than ever, convenience is everything. That's exactly what this project was designed to deliver—a fully self-sufficient, solar-powered drive-thru coffee container where you can grab your favourite coffee, a Vida sandwich, or a quick bite, and be back on the road in minutes.
Now, let's talk about the container itself.

Team Dorman was responsible for the complete build from the ground up. From cutting and cladding the container to the flooring, air conditioning, custom curved canopy, and the complete solar and battery installation, every detail was carefully designed and built to create a modern, functional space.

Powering it all is a SigEnergy battery backup system, paired with solar panels, allowing the container to operate independently while keeping the coffee machines, refrigeration, lighting, air conditioning, and the rest of the equipment running smoothly throughout the day.

This has easily been one of our most unique container builds to date. Safe to say we'll be finding plenty of reasons to stop by for a coffee on the way to the office.

And if you think the outside looks impressive, just wait until you see what's inside—we'll be sharing a full walkthrough soon.

The drive-thru will be opening in the coming weeks at the Shell Ultra City False Bay service station in Macassar, so if you're passing through, make sure you swing by, grab a coffee, and see this solar-powered container in action.

You know where to find us.

Meet Mrs Worldwide 🌍

Sometimes it's good to take a break from all the solar posts and introduce the people who make the magic happen behind the scenes.

Meet Mariska.

If you've ever dealt with Team Dorman, chances are you've crossed paths with her. Mariska is one of our high-energy Senior Managers who heads up part of our Business Development team… and about 47 other things at the same time.

Whether she's chatting to customers, selling solar to apple farmers, or bringing enough personality to power an entire trade show, Mariska is always in her element.

Around the office, we call her Mrs Worldwide. Not because she's recorded a hit song with Pitbull (yet), but because she just spent the last week touring China on solar business.

Mariska is also preparing for her biggest venture yet: launching a brand-new solar dating show on KykNET called "Solar & Sielmaat." We're expecting record-breaking ratings.

Now we need your help...
If you have a better name for Mariska's new show, drop it in the comments below 👇😂

Project Update: 18.18 MWp IPP Development Progress

It's been an exciting few weeks for the Dorman Energy IPP division, led by Mike Cubic, as we continue to make significant progress on one of our most ambitious Independent Power Producer (IPP) developments to date.

Project Specifications:
• 18.183 MWp solar PV plant
• 23,928 × LONGi LR8 620 Wp bifacial modules
• 47 × Sineng 320 kW inverters
• 22 kV grid connection

A standout feature of this project is the innovative bifacial steel rammed mounting structure supplied by Lumax Energy. This bespoke solution has been custom-engineered specifically for the site, marking a first-of-its-kind application and demonstrating the value of tailored engineering in large-scale renewable energy projects.

We're looking forward to sharing more updates on this project and the continued growth of our IPP division in the coming weeks.
A huge thank you to everyone involved for their dedication and outstanding work in bringing this plant to life.

SigEnergy Ball to the Wall

As we put the finishing touches on one of our latest small commercial BESS projects, the team couldn’t help but take a step back and say… wow, that looks clean.

This project saw the old inverter technology removed and replaced with a kickass SigEnergy system — and the final result speaks for itself.

What really makes this installation stand out is the attention to detail. The inverters and batteries were slightly raised off the floor to allow for neat, seamless cable runs into the gateway, creating an installation with almost no visible wiring.

A sizable amount of planning went into making sure every detail was perfectly thought through, and we can confidently say: mission success.

“Stairway to Heaven?” More like Stairway to Solar

To the untrained eye, this might just look like a ladder to the roof of a building — no big deal, why am I even looking at this?

What’s interesting about this particular ladder is that it’s a custom-built CAT ladder, fully designed and manufactured by the Dorman Energy team for one of our latest commercial solar installations.

This ladder forms part of more than 20m of CAT ladders installed across multiple roof access points on one of our recent commercial projects. These CAT ladders are essential for providing safe and reliable roof access, allowing for quick and seamless maintenance of the solar plant and roof for years to come.

It’s not always the solar panels that tell the full story of a project — sometimes it’s the infrastructure behind the scenes that matters just as much.

Wellington Winefarm Winds Up With Solar

It has been a complete washout in Cape Town over the last two days, but the Dorman Energy team is ready to get back on site tomorrow as we kick off a number of new projects and installations.

First up is the expansion of an existing solar installation at a wine farm and tasting room near Windmeul in Wellington. This was one of our flagship projects completed a few years ago, and the curved roof design made for a very unique and technically interesting installation.

The next phase of the project now begins, with an additional 200kWp grid-tied solar PV expansion making use of Sungrow technology. We are excited to continue building out the remainder of this curved roof - we think its going to look amazing once it's completed.

And while we are there, we may just have to celebrate the progress with some of the finest wines the Cape has to offer.

You know where to find us.

SIGENERGY Powers High-End Residential Installation with 50kVA System

It has been a busy morning for the Dorman Energy team. Despite the weather, our crews continued pushing forward to bring this powerful residential solar system online.

This image was captured moments before commissioning, and one thing is certain — SigEnergy systems just look clean!

While this installation looks capable of powering a small commercial facility, this application was designed entirely for residential use. Our client decided to go all-in on energy independence, with a system featuring 50kVA of inverter capacity paired with an impressive 64kWh battery bank to ensure uninterrupted power around the clock.

Beyond the Borders: Solar & Storage in Zambia

It’s time to book flights home as our EPC team wraps up another successful Deye installation in Zambia.

This marks one of several out-of-country projects we’ve delivered in Zambia over the past few weeks—an exciting and rewarding period for the team.

The system comprises 48 × 5.12kWh high-voltage lithium-ion batteries, delivering approximately 245kWh of total storage capacity. The installation is supported by 2 × 50kVA Deye inverters, alongside 216 × JA Solar modules, providing a total solar capacity of 125kWp.

As commissioning wraps up, the team is already preparing for the next installation in Zambia. It’s been a demanding but rewarding few weeks delivering projects beyond our borders.

Looking for a trusted energy partner in Zambia? Look no further.
