How can we design better waiting rooms?

Waiting areas used to be simple holding spaces, somewhere to sit before your meeting or appointment starts. That's changed. These spaces now shape the first impression of a business, often before anyone says a word.

We form first impressions in seconds. That means the waiting room carries more weight than most businesses give it credit for.

This space designed by Internal Developers features our Calm 9 occasional chairs, Bon Bon ottomans, and Trium coffee tables.

Snug creates a pause within the open plan.

Its rounded, cocooned form offers comfort and quiet retreat, softening the pace of the day and bringing ease to the body and calm to the mind.

Upholstered in boucle with a low, grounded stance, Snug turns a transition space into a moment of rest — specified by Urban Spaces, led by Anton, for Cipla's breakout lounge.

This sense of comfort and informality, paired with its considered simplicity, allows Snug to sit naturally within both corporate and hospitality environments.

Nobody specs an office to give someone a headache. And yet.
Cipla's new floor is proof it doesn't have to.

Exhibit A: the Biome storage units. Fluted timber, living greenery, a storage unit that serves as storage, privacy and a sense of calm to ground the space.

Exhibit B: Desks with access to natural light — daylight helps regulate our nervous system

Exhibit C: Layered lighting — to help with eye strain.

Exhibit D: Acoustic treatment — open-plan with manageable ambient noise.

All of these decisions are to help regulate the human body — light, sound, for the nervous systems of the people who'll sit here for eight hours a day, five days a week.

The Vex is a sofa that works really well in multi-purpose spaces.

Like here in Iron Design’s project — they’ve created a space that can act as a town hall, but still works for quick meetings, team lunches, or presentations… without needing a formal boardroom.

It’s easy, flexible, and can be configured to suit how the space is used.

We really like this setup by Iron Design & Build.

This is what a modern office should feel like.

A bold, consistent space where everything works together—from the Cone meeting tables and Naos seating, through to the more relaxed areas with Cappi X, Pex coffee tables, and Poppi laptop tables.

The darker palette, with subtle red and green accents, keeps it sharp without feeling cold.
