⚡ More fuses don’t always mean a better solar installation.

In some systems, when solar strings are completely separated and operate independently from one another, adding extra fuses may achieve very little other than creating additional connection points. 🔧

And here’s the important part:
Every single connection point in a system is a potential point of failure. ⚠️

That’s why proper system design matters so much. It’s not about adding more components for the sake of it — it’s about understanding when protection is required, where it’s required, and how to keep the system both safe and reliable long-term. ☀️🔋

Good solar installations are built on smart design decisions, not unnecessary complexity.

⚡Why should Commercial businesses instal solar?

When it comes to businesses, the savings potential becomes enormous. 🏭☀️

Because many commercial operations run during daylight hours, grid-tied solar systems can offset massive amounts of daytime electricity usage — creating an incredibly strong return on investment. 💰

But it goes even further than that…

With strategies like peak shaving and energy arbitrage, businesses can use battery storage intelligently by:
🔋 Avoiding expensive peak-rate electricity periods
⚡ Charging batteries during lower-cost off-peak times
📈 Leveraging solar production to reduce overall energy spend dramatically

The result?
Some commercial systems can achieve a return on investment in under 2 years. 🤯

At that point, your energy system stops being an expense… and starts becoming a financial asset for the business.

⚡ Does your solar array need an earth?

Yes!

Some people overlook this, but it’s one of the most important safety elements in any solar installation. 🔧

The earth cable must be properly bonded to your solar array to ensure the entire system is safely grounded and protected. 🟢

Without correct earthing, you’re missing a critical safety layer that helps protect both your equipment and your property. ⚠️

☀️ Proper grounding is not optional
🔋 It’s essential for system safety and reliability
⚡ It should always be checked during installation

If you’re unsure whether your system is correctly earthed, reach out to SAMSAM and we’ll guide you in the right direction to get it sorted. 🏡

🌪️ This rooftop solar array literally disappeared in a storm.

About a year ago, we were called out to this five-storey building after the client’s original solar array failed and was blown off the roof. ⚠️

The issue wasn’t the panels… it was the design and mounting approach behind the installation. 🔧

So we completely re-engineered the system, incorporating both ballast weighting and positive fixation methods to properly secure the array for the conditions it would face up here. ☀️🏢

And after the major storms we’ve recently had in Cape Town?
The system held exactly as it should. 💪

This is why proper engineering matters in solar — especially on high buildings and exposed rooftops where wind loading becomes a serious factor. 🌬️

Because a solar system should be designed for real-world conditions… not just installed to look good on day one.

SIG Neo ⚡ Smaller. Smarter. More affordable.

This new system from SIG is about to change the game in Cape Town.

What we really like is that they didn’t just make it cheaper… they actually improved the design. Dedicated AC-in backup, smart load port built in, no gateway required, better waterproofing, less cable tension, and still FOUR MPPTs rated at 20 amps each 👀

That means it’s ready for the future of larger solar panels while keeping installation cleaner and more cost effective.

And the exciting part?
Even though this system is positioned as the more affordable option, it’s still packed with advanced AI functionality and smart system features.

This is where the industry is heading — smarter systems that are easier to install, more reliable, and accessible to more homeowners ☀️

Would you rather have a simpler cheaper system… or a smarter system that can actually optimise itself over time? 👇

⚠️ This is scary… some installers don’t even use this tool.

A bit of an inside track from site… I asked Jeff, our electrician, what his favourite tool is that most people don’t really appreciate or use properly. 🔧

His answer was immediate: a hydraulic battery cable crimper.

And honestly, what makes it a bit worrying is the fact that in the industry, not everyone is even using the correct crimping tools. ⚡

This hydraulic tool builds serious pressure to properly compress the lug onto the end of the cable — creating a solid, safe electrical connection on high-current battery systems. 🔋

We’re talking about battery cables that are already extremely thick… sometimes 2 to 3 times thicker than standard sizes. Trying to crimp that by hand, or without the right equipment, is not just wrong — it’s dangerous and unreliable.

This is one of those fundamental details most people never think about, but it makes a massive difference to system safety and longevity. ☀️

At the end of the day, solar isn’t just about panels and batteries… it’s about doing every single connection correctly.

⚡ “I have solar… so why is my electricity bill still so high?”

This client reached out to us with exactly that problem. 🔋

The issue?
They had a three-phase property, but only a single-phase 5kW Deye inverter installed. ⚙️

What does that actually mean?

It means two-thirds of the property’s electrical supply wasn’t really being powered by the solar system at all. 😳

We upgraded the system to a 12kW three-phase setup so the solar could properly support the entire property the way it was meant to. ☀️

This is why correct system design matters so much.
A solar installation is not just about adding panels and batteries — it’s about matching the system correctly to the property’s electrical infrastructure. 🏡⚡

Because even a good-quality system can underperform if it’s designed incorrectly from the start.

⚠️ Whatever you do… don’t stand on THIS roof tile.

If this top ridge tile breaks, repairing it becomes a major mission. 🔨

The reason is simple — the entire ridge capping often needs to be removed and replaced just to fix that one broken tile. 😬

But if the tile below it breaks? That’s usually a quick and easy replacement with far less work involved.

It’s one of those small roofing details that most people never think about until somebody steps in the wrong place. 🏠⚡

So if you ever see people walking on your roof, make sure they know where not to step.

There’s a reason we’re booked all the way through until the end of June ⚡

More and more homeowners are realising that not all solar installations are equal. People want systems that are planned properly, installed neatly, and built to last — not rushed jobs with problems later on.

That’s why our calendar keeps filling up.

And honestly, we appreciate every single client trusting us with their homes and businesses 🔧☀️

If you’re thinking about solar, now is the time to start the conversation before the next available slots disappear.

How long would you be willing to wait for an installer you actually trust? 👇
