No-cost Industrial & Commercial Buildings Online Energy Saving Assessment

The aim of Able-Energy’s free electricity savings and costs assessment is briefly to:

1. Understand utilities rates and structures.

2. Assess the cost of using energy and power, demand charges vs energy charges, and inclining block rates.

3. Energy data consolidation.

4. Identify all energy using equipment and areas of potential savings.

Please visit our website www.able-energy.co.za to view the assessment on our home page. Alternatively, please email [email protected] to receive the energy assessment link.

The Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy on 8 December 2020 published regulations for the Mandatory Display and Submission of Energy Performance Certificates (EPC) for office buildings.

The regulations require companies with a GLA threshold of +2000m2 office buildings to obtain EPCs before the closing date of 7 December 2025.

The penalties for non-compliance will not exceed R5 million.

Able-Energy can assist your organisation to obtain EPC’s as follows:

1. Gather, measure and process the energy consumption data of the qualifying office buildings.

2. Do the provisional energy audit in relation to the occupancy levels.

3. Obtain building plans and occupancy certificates from council in case they are not available.

4. Issue Energy Performance Certificates for the audited buildings with all the required information and enegy carriers data.

Thermal storage system for Heating, Ventilation and Air-conditioning(HVAC) optimisation.

The purpose of the system is to build ice at night when utility rates are cheaper and save this stored energy for later cooling use during the day when utility rates are higher. A thermal storage system saves operating and installed costs while providing improved system efficiency and reliability.

Benefits of the thermal storage system (TSS):

1 Offer significant financial savings in operational expenditure.

2 Ice tanks offer a life cycle of over 40 years. This means they may see 2-3 chiller retrofits without any change.

3 A TSS saves operating and installed costs while providing improved system efficiency and reliability.

4 The TSS may be used simply for demand control or reduction.

5 The TSS may be used for normal commercial building operation a mix of 24/7 or even full 24/7 operation. It all depends on the operational requirements.

The Johannesburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry invites you to attend a Just Energy Transition webinar presented by Able-Energy (Pty) Ltd.

This timely and informative webinar will address key energy related topics such as:

* Just Energy Transition (JET)
* Non-existent company energy management policies/strategies.
* Process methodology for energy management systems.
* Optimising energy management systems in your plant or office facility, etc.
* Utility Audits, Energy Audits and Measurement and Verification Methodologies.
* JET and Decentralised Energy Systems.
* ISO 50001:2018 (Energy Management System).
* Energy management system partly to monitor, target and track energy performance to identify energy and financial losses.

The objective of the Just Energy Transition webinar is to address these issues.

It will further showcase how companies may reduce and free up utility operational expenditure to effectively fund, manage any associated services and additional capital equipment required to further optimise utility expenditure.

Municipality or Eskom Utilities Recoveries

Is your company over-billed by the municipality or Eskom on utilities?

Did your company pay the municipality or Eskom’s over-billed utilities charges?

We assist companies with utilities recoveries by:

1.Analysing utilities historic and current operational data.

2.Drafting utilities recoveries report.

3.Assist with engaging the municipality or Eskom for utilities charges recoveries.

4.Court appearance to substantiate or testify on the report’s recommendations or findings.

Energy Management System & Dashboards

Our energy management system utilises modern software which provides all the basic energy functions, plus MODBUS, Web Server, harmonics, and Power Quality with integrated waveform capture all of which is not currently available from the likes of Metering Online, etc. which is mostly energy, demand and billing focused. We also develop customised dashboards.

The energy management system has the following benefits:

* Reduce energy consumption by tracking the lifecycle and performance of operational technologies i.e. production machinery, and HVAC systems, etc.
* Reduce peak energy demand.
* Utilities bill verification
* Measures unit of energy consumption per unit of production or per unit of value added.
* Identify and eliminates waste energy through automated reporting (e.g., regular reports on equipment hours of operation, energy use, temperature set-points).
* Assists with achieving carbon reduction targets.
* Measurement and verification of any energy conservation measures implemented, allowing assessment of financial paybacks and environmental impact; and
* Visibility of the building operation across all levels of the organisation, so that all stakeholders have input into operations.

With the current challenges of energy shortages countrywide. We have received a number of requests from entities renting or owning industrial & commercial buildings to assess the viability of alternative energy sources i.e., solar energy and backup technologies (generators) for their operations. In this way, we provide solar energy business cases/due diligence which impart the following aspects:

1. The financial viability of solar photovoltaic (PV) installations.
2. Finance available for solar PV installations.
3. Regulations and tariffs for feeding electricity into the grid or municipal grid study.
4. Investigate Section 12B tax incentive.
5. The size of the installation and its impact on the cost of electricity produced.
6. The location, roof type, and roof direction.
7. The financing model selected.
8. The client’s current electricity tariff.
9. The client’s consumption patterns.
10. Handle the procurement or tendering process and can organise external finance where necessary.

Toyota

The Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy in 2020 published regulations for the Mandatory Display and Submission of Energy Performance Certificates.

Able-Energy is contracted by Toyota to conduct an Energy Performance Certificates (EPC) Readiness Audits for all their 6 qualifying office buildings with a net floor threshold of 2000 square meters.

We are doing a site walkabout at their Johannesburg buildings and the same has already been done at their Durban ones.

After this phase is completed. We will begin the process to issue Energy Performance Certificates for each building in collaboration with our accredited SANEDI EPC Inspection Body partners.
