Dear Family, Friends, and Potential Donors,
I am urgently reaching out to share my mother Marguerite's heartfelt story with you. In 2012, Marguerite was informed that she needed a knee replacement and was placed on a waiting list at a state hospital. Unfortunately, she never received any response or feedback to this day.
Marguerite's daily life is overshadowed by excruciating pain that she endures every minute of every day. At night, she lies in bed to avoid bearing weight on her hip, often in tears despite taking medication that seems to offer little relief anymore. The pain has become so unbearable that she can no longer pursue her weekend dressmaking, her second source of income, due to the physical strain.
In September 2023, a visit to George Mukhari Hospital revealed the complete deterioration of her hip joint, compounded by AVN from long-term cortisone treatment. Marguerite now faces unbearable suffering and is ranked 734th on the waitlist for a replacement. Despite being chronologically 60 years old, mentally she remains 40 and believes she still has much to contribute to life. Her days are filled with constant struggle, unable to work effectively or pursue her passions like gardening and charitable work.
Despite these challenges, Marguerite remains resilient, operating a sewing machine workshop and giving back to her community. However, her dream of a pain-free life hinges on receiving specialized medical care, including knee replacements that are financially out of reach.
We urgently need to raise R200,000 for a hip replacement at a private hospital or for qualified surgeons who can assist in any way, offering the procedure at a discounted rate or free if possible.
