Another year of clean energy in the Eastern Cape!

This month marks 12 years since Cookhouse Wind Farm reached Commercial Operation — the day our 66 turbines officially started feeding clean, renewable power into South Africa's national grid.

Since then, we've generated approximately 341 000 MWh of green energy every year — enough to power around 94 000 low-income homes (or 43 000 medium-income homes).

Thank you to the Cookhouse, Bedford, Adelaide and Somerset East communities for being part of this journey with us.

Our Social Performance Intern, Kwakhanya Mnconywa, recently had the privilege of participating in the Columba Leadership Camp, a values-based leadership programme centred around six core values: Awareness, Focus, Creativity, Integrity, Perseverance and Service.

Each day focused on a different value, encouraging participants to reflect on leadership, collaboration and personal growth.

These values closely align with the work of Social Performance, where integrity, resilience, purposeful engagement and service to communities are at the heart of creating meaningful impact.

Kwakhanya shared that the camp provided valuable lessons on leading with confidence, communicating with empathy, embracing challenges with perseverance, and recognising that effective leadership starts with knowing yourself before leading others.

We are proud to support opportunities that equip young people with the skills, values and confidence to make a positive difference in their communities.

Msenge Emoyeni Wind Farm, in collaboration with Spowind, is offering an exciting opportunity for local community members to gain valuable skills through GWO Basic Safety Training.

🎓 20 training opportunities are available for individuals looking to build their skills and explore opportunities in the wind energy sector.

Happy Women's Month!

Wind energy is opening doors for young women in Cookhouse, Bedford, Somerset East and Adelaide.

Through our wind turbine service technician training programme, local young women are being trained and qualified to service and maintain turbines — a highly skilled, historically male-dominated trade.

This Women's Month, we're proud to be building pathways for women into the technical heart of the renewable energy industry.

• 7 months full-time training
• 2 months workplace experience

We close off Mandela Month with the people who remind us most why this work matters: our children.

Mandela believed that the future of any country is determined by how it treats and educates its young. "It's still in our hands to combat poverty and inequity" — and for us, those hands begin in the earliest years of life.

Since 2016, Cookhouse Wind Farm's Early Childhood Development (ECD) Flagship Programme has invested across 28 ECD centres in Adelaide, Bedford, Cookhouse and Somerset East. More than 2 200 children have benefited. 126 practitioners and principals have been trained and upskilled. And hundreds of parents have been brought into the learning journey — because we know that a parent is a child's first teacher.

These children are growing up better prepared, more confident, and more ready for the world ahead. That is what it looks like when it's in our hands.
