Standard or custom steel structure, which does your project actually need?

Standard structures win on speed: fixed spans, quick pricing, sometimes stock availability. Good fit for a simple, regular footprint.

But if your site is irregular, needs to handle cranes or mezzanine levels, or has to tie into existing buildings a custom design isn't the "expensive upgrade" people assume. It's the only approach that actually fits.

And custom doesn't have to mean slow. Planned properly from day one with an experienced fabricator involved early, a custom structure moves through workshop and site as efficiently as a standard build. The complexity only creeps in when design happens in isolation from the people building it.

The real question isn't "what's available off the shelf." It's "what does this site actually need."

A lot of construction quotes look simple until the invoices start arriving. Ours are built to be transparent from the outset, and that same transparency carries through into how we handle clients after the structure is up.

No hidden costs on the quote and our after-sales support exists specifically so that clients aren't left chasing answers months or years after a project wraps.

That matters because steel structures are a long-term investment, often decades long, which means the company behind the build needs to be around just as long.

Our after-sales commitment includes performance assurance over the life of the structure. That means honouring warranties properly, keeping records of what was built and how, and treating a service call five years from now with the same urgency as one from opening week.

Nobody sees the 5am load-out. Everyone sees the finished structure.

As part of our current fleet rebrand, this truck was loaded before sunrise and on the road not long after — structural steel secured, crane in place, next site waiting. New branding on the outside, same process that’s kept us reliable for more than 30 years.

This is the part of the job that happens before anyone’s watching.

B&T Steel delivers complete steelwork package for H and M in Delmas.

We recently completed a warehouse for H and M, a 4 000 m² facility built to support high-volume operations.

B&T Steel handled the full scope on this project, from design and detailing through to fabrication, manufacturing, transport and on-site assembly. We also completed the cladding installation and protective painting, delivering a durable, well-finished structure built to meet the client's performance and efficiency requirements.

This project is a strong example of what we do best: custom shaped and sized steel structures, engineered and built to spec for demanding industrial applications. The structure took shape into a long warehouse with a roof-mounted solar array, brick infill walls, and a separate front section where an angled roof intersects the main building. The roof sheeting and side cladding features polycarbonate sheeting strips for natural daylight, and the structure was designed to carry a roof-mounted solar array.

We recently completed an 11 tonne implement storage facility on a working farm in Delmas, Mpumalanga, close to home for our Delmas-based team.

We handled the full scope for this project using our industry leading turnkey service offering: design, detailing, fabrication, transport, assembly, cladding, and painting.

The brief was simple - Build a structure that holds up to daily farm operations and gives the client a reliable place to store equipment long term.

We are proud to highlight our work on the Blu Rock Mining project in Kitwe, Zambia, a project that showcases B&T Steel’s expertise in the mining sector.

Executed as a full turnkey solution, our team managed the design, detailing, fabrication, transport, assembly, cladding, and painting of 50 tonnes of structural steel. This project required precision engineering to create a robust crane building perfectly suited for the rigorous demands of the mining industry.
