Core drilling is used to create clean, precise openings in concrete for pipes, cables, anchor bolts, and service penetrations.

The process allows for accurate hole sizing with minimal vibration, reducing the risk of structural damage.

It is commonly used for plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and utility installations in both new construction and retrofit projects.

At the Buffelsdraai Treatment Works, we are sealing critical joints using a Sika Combiflex joint waterproofing bandage. This system is installed at construction joints where concrete pours meet, preventing water ingress and protecting these vulnerable areas from long-term deterioration.

Restoration work underway at Moses Mabhida Stadium. We are carrying out structural rehabilitation of the compression ring concrete columns, along with repairs to various mechanical joints throughout the stadium. Our team is able to safely access and work at these elevated areas through the use of extensive scaffolding.

Carbon fibre strengthening is a structural reinforcement method used to repair damaged concrete, increase load-bearing capacity, and extend the lifespan of existing infrastructure.

Lightweight and high in tensile strength, carbon fibre systems are commonly applied to beams, slabs, columns, bridges, and industrial structures where additional structural capacity is required.

At this factory in Durban, the existing building was demolished to make way for new works. Following demolition, a new concrete slab was constructed, with reinforcement installed and concrete placed to provide a solid, long-term foundation.

With the concrete set, we can now begin the rest of the construction.

Our team got back last week from the festive break. We’re picking up where we left off on this project, addressing a void that developed directly beneath the factory floor slab. Grout is being injected through drilled holes to fill the cavity and stabilise the floor without excavation.

Our team wraps up for a well-earned break this week after a big year. This video shows some of the work we’ve done on the uMngeni–uThukela pipeline restoration project. Significant sections have now been treated with a full bitumen wrap, designed to seal off potential leak points, combat corrosion, and extend the pipeline’s service life. It’s been a major undertaking, and the progress achieved this year sets the stage for continued rehabilitation in the new year.

The PS 1000 X-Scan is a non-destructive scanner built for concrete inspection that we have been using on some of our recent projects.

It has allowed us to detect embedded objects like reinforcement bars, tendons, pipes, and voids, even through multiple layers. With clear 2D and 3D imaging, it helps us plan safer drilling, cutting, and structural evaluations. A reliable step forward in reducing risk and improving accuracy on complex sites.

This recent photo shows one of our technicians being trained by a Hilti engineer in KZN. The device, the PS 300 is a rebar scanner that helps us “see” inside the concrete.

It pinpoints rebar positions, measures how deep they are, and gives us the data we need for safe drilling, cutting, or structural assessments. It’s all part of making sure what’s beneath the surface matches what’s on the plan.

On this project, the concrete plinths were cast too low — and the anchor bolts weren’t long enough to do their job.

We corrected this by cutting and re-threading the bolts, extending them with couplers, and installing new threaded bars. The plinths were then re-shuttered, re-cast, and floated to the correct level. A practical fix that ensured everything aligned properly, without needing to start over.
