YIELDPLAY Energy Limited (YEL) has signed a power purchasing agreement with Kiyona Energy Limited (KEL) to provide solar power to government health facilities and water utilities at a cost of US$250 million.
YEL is working in collaboration with Sunfields Energy Limited (SEL), the promoters of the project.
Company executive director Lihle Zulu said the agreement exemplifies the strength of its collaboration in ensuring consistent power supply to health facilities and water utilities in the country.
Mr Zulu said the company is bringing to the table US$250 million foreign direct investment package to solarise health centres and water utilities across the country.
During the signing of the agreement in Lusaka yesterday, Mr Zulu said US$200 million will be used to solarise 255 government health facilities while US$50 million will be spent on powering water utilities.
“The agreement includes operations, maintenance and performance guarantees in ensuring access to clean energy for hospitals for uninterrupted care,” he said.
Mr Zulu said solarising water utilities will also guarantee reliable water supply in the midst of climate variability challenges.
