Our Feature “Friday” this week is the Father & Son Duo, Vinesh & Shivesh of Bean who are located in our Village 💥 They have been trading with our market for the last 7 years & this is their journey with SFM:

“The Steaming Bean was born in 2016, from friendship, family & a love of coffee. Our business was initially fronted by Sean & I (Shivesh), with assistance & guidance from my dad, Vinesh. We entered the market in late 2016 & funnily enough nearly passed up our opportunity when Christine contacted us on a Friday morning to trade the next day. Being in our early 20s, sacrificing our Friday nights, with the early starts required on a Saturday seemed like a big chore! But something made me call Christine back & accept her offer to be there the following day.

This call turned out to be pivotal, as our time at the Shongweni Market has proved to be the catalyst to growing our business. The market allowed us to grow our Steaming Bean family, & since then we’ve expanded to include our own roastery (2018), & two more cafes (2020 & 2022).

Unfortunately, after a lengthy, valiant battle with cancer, Sean passed away in 2019. Whilst he was under-going his treatment, my dad became more involved with the roastery & events side of the business. Since Sean’s unfortunate passing The Steaming Bean has become more of a family affair; working together to make sure that we deliver coffee that puts a smile on your face.

Although a morning at the market can be a stressful rush while trying to push out orders, it’s still always such a pleasure connecting with the customers & other stall holders in the few minutes that we share while making their drinks. The atmosphere of the market, especially on a crisp winter morning, & the camaraderie amongst stall holders is very special.

My dad & I would like to thank SFM for providing us with the opportunity to let our passion project grow. We’re also grateful to our loyal customers for sharing our appreciation of high-quality coffee, the friendly chit-chat & always coming back for seconds!

Waiting that bit longer for a freshly ground cup of coffee is where the magic is - you can literally taste the difference ⭐ If you haven’t tried their coffee yet, then you need to make your way down to the Village to their coffee van. Come and say hi to Vinesh & Shivesh this Saturday 👋 ps Mum we didn’t forget you – always there, always smiling 🧡

Our Feature Friday for this week is the Mother and Daughter Team Tracy and Sarah Hitchens of Lasertrix 💥 Who began trading with SFM at the old site in 2012 and this is their journey with SFM:

“After I (Tracy) was retrenched in 2012 I decided it was a good time for change and bought my first laser cutter and started Lasertrix. The business grew and we are now a full-time mom and daughter business, after Sarah joined me.

The idea was to start with markets for "only 3 months" to get our name out there. We started doing every market available but as the months went on, we dropped off the non-profitable markets and focused on only The Shongweni Market.

We were at that stage, already a part of the Shongweni Family. We have had so many customers and stall holders that have become friends and are even like family. We are so grateful for each and every one of our customers.

We specialize in customized items, what you see on our stand is only the tip of the iceberg, we are happy to do individual items or orders in the 1000's. We do anything from magnets, keyrings and crosses to engraved chopping boards, cake toppers, advent calendars and home decor. Another one of our specialties is wedding decor. You dream it, we can probably do it. We pride ourselves in being unique, always making something new and different to add to our range.”
