Tips on saving energy.

1) Change your electric stove hob to gas
2) When your geyser packs up replace it with a solar geyser or fit a heat pump.
3) Replace all general internal and external globes with LED globes.
4) Replace outdated 12v 50w down lights with 230v 5w LED’s. This will save you 90% energy per light. We do this conversion for R150 excl. vat per downlight.

Warning !

This is a friendly warning regarding how desperate our energy crisis is in South Africa. All our current power stations are nearing the end of their lifespan. Medupi and Kusile power stations were meant to replace the old power stations. Medupi and Kusile are flawed projects and can only supply only a fraction of the energy they were meant to. Eskom can’t even pay it’s interest on it’s loans while using all available capacity of it’s power stations. To make matters worse Eskom is unfortunately reducing its own sales due to load shedding and customers, in response are supplying their own energy. Unfortunately this is a cocktail that will ultimately cause Eskom’s demise. I’m sorry this post is so negative, but the facts are there for all to see. It’s a catch 22!

Get as independent as you can afford as soon as possible. Pay the price and invest in a energy system that will last you a long time. There is already a four week delay on installations and stocks of product are also a problem.

So the Eskom chickens have come home to roost. Eskom has just announced that Load Shedding is very likely between now and year end and most the reasons are given in my previous posts from the 3rd of April.

I suggest you re-visit previous posts and start preparing for this situation. Due to the increases in Eskom’s costs , Solar energy is much more viable paying itself off within five years on Grid Tie Systems.

Is it a good time to invest in Solar ?

Well this depends on your view on the Rand / Dollar exchange rate. Most of the quality inverters and panels or their components are imported. The Rand has weakened from R11.65 to R12.06 in the last month. I think it will certainly not strengthen for the following reasons.

1. Cyril’s honeymoon is over
2. Land Policy to create uncertainty for some time.
3 . Trump’s tariffs on Chinese imports.

The current solar stock was bought at on a strong Rand , so prices are good at the moment .

Anyone wishing to take advantage of the current prices , you can email me , and get a free consultation.

Eskom’s catch 22

As Eskom’s tariffs increase to pay for past theft , mismanagement and a current bloated workforce, so grid tie Photovoltaic ( solar panel) systems are becoming more financially viable for businesses and homes. This is causing Eskom to lose business and increase tariffs more to pay the debt. As the tariff goes up again more businesses and homes resort to subsidizing their energy with solar and so on.

Currently a quality grid tie photovoltaic system pays for itself in four to four and a half years. After that you get that portion of your energy free for twelve to fifteen years , which is the lifespan of the system . In layman’s terms if you invest 150000,00 on a system which covers 35 % of your energy usage , your R150000,00 will be saved on your bill in four years and your energy consumption for that portion will be free for the next twelve to fifteen years.

If you have the funds to invest , it’s a no brainer !

Robs opinion

So what can we expect from Eskom going forward.

No load shedding
There won’t be much planned load shedding as there is plenty capacity . The problem lies in Eskom’s financial restraints and as a result compromised maintenance. This is becoming apparent in the increasing unplanned outages which is far worse than load shedding . According to reliable sources Eskom has lost 66 Billion Rand through fraud and theft in the last three years leaving the giant utility in a desperate cash flow situation.

For those of who wish to continue living free of the Inconvenience of unplanned Eskom outages , the best solution is a reliable energy back up system . For more information or a consultation please email me on [email protected]

About:

S. U. N as the company is known, was birthed during the launch of the Eskom Water Heating Rebate Programme in 2008. The focus at that stage, was to supply and install solar water heating systems and heat pumps, on the back of an innovative programme by Eskom and government, whereby homeowners looking to buy solar geyser systems and heat pumps would be credited with a generous rebate.

In 2009, the business added the installation of “clean energy backup systems” to its products and installation services on offer. This opportunity was precipitated by the demand at Eskom exceeding supply, creating the need for load-shedding on a regular basis. Eskom’s woes continued as their endeavour to keep the lights on became costly. This resulted in year on year double digit tariff increases for the consumer. As the tariffs continued to rise, yet another opportunity presented itself - the “photovoltaic grid tie systems” or want of a simpler description - “solar panel energy systems”, which subsidize one’s electrical bill once installed. S. U. N once again responded to the opportunity and added this new dimension to supply and service to its customers.

Today S. U. N is able to give a one-stop energy solution for homeowners and businesses, alike. Solutions can be tailor-made to suit the customers’ requirements and budget.
The person at the helm of the business is Rob Davidson, who has 35 years’ experience in the construction and property development industry. He has an unquenchable passion for the exciting prospects of a human race that will choose to use clean renewable energy, to ensure our descendants’ survival on planet earth.
