CCA is a water-based preservative treatment which imparts a clean, green appearance to poles and is especially suited for use in buildings and urban structures, while Creosote is an oil-based preservative, which imparts a black colour to poles. Due to its oiliness and strong odour, it is more suited to agricultural and industrial use for fencing, telephone and electricity poles.
