Good work The Department of Correctional Services ๐ฟ๐ฆ
Minister of Correctional Services, Dr Pieter Groenewald, today (22 January 2026) tabled the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) Performance Report at the Presidential Performance Assessment for the 2025/26 financial year.
He was joined by the Deputy Minister, Ms Lindiwe Ntshalintshali, and the National Commissioner, Mr Makgothi Thobakgale.
The report highlights a year of strong performance, accountability and ethical governance.
Key achievements include:
โข 266 of 312 misconduct cases finalised, with 30 officials found guilty through disciplinary processes.
โข 51 integrity workshops conducted nationwide and whistleblowing mechanisms enhanced.
โข Response provided to 100% of Parliamentary questions for the second consecutive year.
โข Over 1 200 raids conducted, confiscating 35 250 cellphones, 320+ kg of drugs, and thousands of dangerous objects.
โข National bakery programme achieved 95.7% self-sufficiency, saving the State R33.1 million.
โข Historic establishment of the Nelson Mandela Rules Academy, launching 11 February 2026.
โข Plans advanced for new facilities to address overcrowding and strengthen long-term capacity.
These achievements reflect DCSโ continued commitment to building a safer, ethical and rehabilitative correctional system in service of South Africa.
