👷♀️ Catching Up With Milla – Our Sponsored Candidate!
How is Milla progressing with her TDMI Training journey?
A few months ago, we introduced you to Milla Baxor Mihle, the winner of our TDMI Training & Nearby Electrician R20,000+ Sponsorship Programme.
Our commitment was to support Milla on her journey towards becoming a fully registered electrician and, ultimately, establishing her own compliant electrical contracting business.
But we also promised to share the journey with our fellow electricians — the achievements, the challenges and the lessons learned along the way.
So we recently asked Milla a few questions about her experience with the TDMI Unit Standards Electrical Course.
And here's what she had to say! 👇
🎓 First, Some Good News!
Milla has successfully completed all her Unit Standards training videos and her first two theoretical assessments! 🎉
But what has the experience actually been like?
🎤 Q: Was the course what you expected?
💬 Milla: "I expected it to be challenging, especially the theoretical part."
She explained that the course surprised her in a positive way. Even with years of practical electrical experience, she discovered how important it is to understand the theory behind electrical work, not just how to perform the task.
🎤 Q: How did you experience the online training videos?
💬 Milla: "Being able to pause and replay them was a big advantage."
She particularly appreciated being able to work at her own pace, revisit difficult topics and make sure she understood the material before moving forward.
🎤 Q: Did you ever feel overwhelmed?
💬 Milla: "Yes, at times the amount of information felt overwhelming."
And this is something many electricians can relate to!
Milla explained that taking things one step at a time, revisiting the videos and remembering why she started helped her push through.
🎤 Q: How did you feel before your first assessment?
💬 Milla: "Before my first assessment, I felt a little nervous because I wanted to do well and prove to myself that I had understood the material."
After completing it, she felt encouraged and more confident about continuing.
🎤 Q: Has the course changed the way you look at electrical work?
Milla says her understanding has grown beyond practical experience. She now thinks more deeply about the technical principles, electrical standards and safety requirements behind the work.
And we believe this is one of the most important lessons for our industry:
⚡ Knowing HOW to do something is important. Understanding WHY it must be done that way is what helps build a competent electrician.
🎤 Q: What advice would you give another electrician who is nervous about studying?
💬 Milla: "Do not underestimate yourself. You do not have to understand everything immediately, and feeling nervous does not mean you are incapable."
Her advice is to take your time, revise regularly, ask for help when needed and remain committed to your goal.
❤️ And Finally, A Message to Women in the Electrical Industry
We asked Milla what she would say to another woman who dreams of becoming an electrician but feels the industry might not be for her.
Her response deserves to be shared:
💬 "We belong in this industry too. Believe in yourself, take up the opportunity, and never be afraid to learn something new."

With the first two theoretical assessments successfully completed, Milla is preparing for her practical assignments and final assessment.
There is still a journey ahead, including the registration stages covered by her sponsorship, but every completed milestone brings her closer to her dream.
