Strong project preparation gives infrastructure a far better chance of being delivered successfully. From our experience in water and wastewater projects, decisions made early around scope, constructability and long-term operation determine whether a project delivers lasting value. Tecroveer Group of Companies

PROJECT PREPARATION | Once considered a stumbling block to critical infrastructure development, project preparation has been significantly strengthened in South Africa, helping pave the way for faster implementation of Strategic Integrated Projects (SIPs). This was highlighted by President Cyril Ramaphosa during the Sustainable Infrastructure Development Symposium South Africa 2026, hosted by Infrastructure South Africa in Cape Town.

The Symposium brought together more than 1,200 delegates, government officials, infrastructure experts, project sponsors, investors, financiers and technical professionals from across South Africa and the continent.

This year, celebrates 50 years of cleaning water. Celebrate 🍾🎉🥳

The milestone is about more than how long we have been in business. It reflects 50 years of adapting as technology, regulations, client needs and South Africa itself have changed—without losing sight of our purpose.

From developing tailored solutions where no off-the-shelf answer existed to operating plants that continue to perform after 20 years, Tecroveer has always designed in Africa, for Africa.

Thank you for all our Partners, suppliers and clients that made this happen.

A biofilter can appear operational while a mechanical failure is developing beneath the surface.

Tecroveer was called in by the client to assess and repair this biofilter. Inspection identified damage around the central drum and distributor-arm connection — a critical part of the system responsible for distributing wastewater evenly across the filter media.

The repair could not be completed adequately on site. The drum was therefore removed and transported to our workshop, where the necessary repairs were completed before it was returned and reinstated.

Why does it matter to distribute waste water evenly?

Uneven or interrupted distribution can reduce contact between the wastewater and the biological media. This affects treatment performance and can place additional strain on the rest of the process.

The before, repair and after photographs show more than a visual improvement. They show the value of:

* Proper fault assessment
* Removing damaged equipment when an on-site repair is insufficient
* Repairing the component under controlled workshop conditions
* Reinstating the system so that distribution can operate as intended

Effective wastewater treatment depends on both the biological process and the mechanical equipment supporting it.

Tecroveer provides practical support to assess, repair and restore water and wastewater treatment infrastructure.

Called in to fix a damaged biofilter.

The central drum was removed, repaired at our workshop and returned to site—restoring the wastewater distribution system to operation.

From assessment to repair and reinstatement.

WOMEN’S DAY | THE WORK THAT NEVER STOPS

When most of us finish our working day, we go home.

But across South Africa’s water and wastewater treatment plants, the work continues.

Process controllers remain at their posts — monitoring, adjusting and responding. Because water doesn’t work office hours.

Today, Tecroveer honours the women among them.

The women working in our plants.
The women supporting our operations.
The women across the water and wastewater industry who carry the responsibility of keeping essential systems running.

And when their shift ends, many step into another role — mother, daughter, partner, caregiver, provider and the person others depend on.

One responsibility doesn’t replace the other. They carry both.

To the women of Tecroveer, and to every woman who helps keep South Africa’s water infrastructure working: we see the contribution you make.

Not only today. Every day.

Happy Women’s Day.

From crisis to global recognition: the Hammanskraal story is this month's IMIESA cover feature.

In May 2023, the Hammanskraal cholera outbreak became one of South Africa's most visible reminders of ageing water infrastructure — and one of its most urgent calls to action.

Following a Ministerial Directive, Magalies Water, Pro-Plan Consulting Engineers and Tecroveer set out to restore safe drinking water to Hammanskraal — not in years, but in months.

By December 2024, the first module of Kalabas (Pty) Ltd's Calabash® system was producing potable water. A year later, all four modules were fully commissioned. And in July 2026, the project was awarded Gold in the Construction Category at the IFME World Congress in Helsinki — recognised among the best infrastructure projects globally.

What made it possible:
✅ Treatment capacity boosted from 42 MLD to 92 MLD — at a live, fully operational works, with zero downtime
✅ 98–99% removal efficiency, even during extreme turbidity events
âś… 50% less coagulant required than the conventional process
âś… A gravity-driven system using under 50 kW per ML treated
âś… Modular units built to last 20+ years

As Pro-Plan's Japie Botha puts it: the true win here isn't measured in megalitres or medals. It's restoring something more fundamental — public confidence that engineering, guided by purpose and collaboration, can protect both human dignity and the constitutional right to safe drinking water.
