We are thrilled to announce that Dr Nompumelelo Catherine Baso is the 2025 winner of the Jennifer Ward Oppenheimer Research Grant!

Established to honour the late Mrs Jennifer Ward Oppenheimer, the award continues her extensive contribution to and passion for Africa, the environment, and science.

Hugest congratulations to Dr Baso, whose research focuses on the impact that invasive species and climate change have on complex food webs in Africa's freshwater ecosystems. This research is vital to help restore stability in some of the continent's most vulnerable ecosystems.

Well done Prof. Martin Hill. Biological control is key for the effective management of many wetlands globally. We are fortunate to have such expertise locally.

Prof. Martin Hill was at the FAO Open-ended workshop on biological control agents and biostimulants in Rome, Italy this week. He contributed to important discussions around biological control. This meeting is important as it lays the foundations to policy development across the world pertaining to biological control. Thanks Martin for flying South Africa and Biocontrols' flags high!
