Cranemec Group is utilizing the latest wire rope NDT inspection technology during annual crane load tests and thorough examinations—namely Magnetic Rope Testing (MRT). This advanced method allows Cranemec to comply fully with ISO and BS/EN 4309 standards during crane inspections.

Magnetic Rope Testing (MRT) is a highly effective technique used to detect defects and deterioration in steel wire ropes.
The process works by fully magnetizing a section of the rope as it passes through a sensor. The system then detects and measures any changes in the magnetic field caused by:

Broken wires

Corrosion

Wear

Mechanical damage

Traditionally, assessing the condition of a wire rope—especially when internal breaks are present—is extremely challenging. During a visual inspection, an inspector can only see about 20% of the rope’s metallic cross-section. The remaining 80% is hidden, leaving a large margin for undetected damage.

With MRT, however, the inspector can accurately evaluate up to 99% of the rope’s condition, making the assessment far more reliable and significantly safer.
