When a fault occurs, current needs somewhere to go. A well-designed earthing system provides that path, low-resistance, deliberate, and fast enough to trigger protective devices before voltage builds to dangerous levels. Without it, that fault energy doesn't disappear. It finds another path. Sometimes through equipment. Sometimes through a person.
