Harris Sawing Equipment cc

Harris Sawing Equipment cc Harris Sawing Equipment is a manufacturing company based is Johannesburg South Africa specializing is the manufacture of circular saw blades. R.

Our family’s involvement with saws dates back to 1919 when Raymond R. Harris, having just completed school, found himself managing the Burnt Forest Saw Mill in Kenya. He soon discovered that his knowledge and experience with saws was non-existent. He arranged to travel to the United Kingdom where he received training and experience with Spear and Jackson in Sheffield, T. Robinson and Son in Rochda

le and CC Dawe Ltd in London. From 1923 until 1930 he worked in Kenya as a saw doctor. The depression in the ‘30s forced him to seek work in South Africa. Here his first job was with South African Railways – secured because of his experience with wide band saws. In 1934 he started a saw repair shop in Johannesburg. The bulk of the business being circular saws, with hot saws for steel mills accounting for about 60% of the business. The name changed to R. Harris and Sons in 1962. The manufacture of hot saws from local steel started in 1964. In 1966 Roy Harris joined the company. The heat treatment plant was commissioned in 1973. The first automatic TCT sharpening equipment installed as well. In 1975 Cedric Harris joined the company. In 1977 Harris and Sons was bought by Norton Abrasives who owned Lasher Tools (successor to Spear and Jackson SA). In 1979 Roy Harris broke away from Norton and started Harris Sawing Equipment. He began producing diamond saw bodies including laser weld quality, inserted tooth saws, slitting knives and specialised TCT products. Michael Harris, third generation family, joined the company in 2002. In 2008 we installed the largest automatic tungsten carbide tipping machine in South Africa, capable of tipping saws from 180 mm diameter to 1,000 mm in diameter. In 2012 we commissioned and installed the most sophisticated automatic straightening and tensioning machine (at that time) in the Southern Hemisphere. From 2013 to 2015 we have continually installed new automatic equipment for the manufacturing of circular saw blades such as automatic TCT sharpening machines and automatic polishing machine.
. Our current manufacturing includes:
. TCT saws
Food grade stainless steel blades
Circular saws from 8mm diameter to 3000mm
in diameter
Plate saws
Hot saws
. The largest and smallest circular saw we produce is a record for the African continent.

So in times where every penny is turned over twice why would you take a second look at a more costly consumable ? This is a relevant Question we get on most days without the time to stop and break it down to you as to why. So here goes a taste of FAQ from our website launching a fresh 2021.
Our blades are made using the highest standards. The raw materials used are the highest quality materials used in the circular saw blade industry. The steel used in the saw bodies conform to the highest German standards for circular saw steel.

Our blades only use the highest quality of tungsten carbide sourced from Europe using specific grades for different applications. Once again all of our carbide tips conform and surpass international standards.

If you look at the photo below you can clearly see the difference in tip size on the two blades (our Tru-Cut range to the left). This equates to life of the blade in terms of the number of times that the blade's tips can be sharpened. This however requires the saw body to be made from the correct material to retain the tension and ensure that your saw lasts for the entire lifetime of the tools.

PETERSON SAWMILLS PARTNER WITH AGENT IN SOUTH AFRICA - PRESS RELEASE

New Zealand manufacturer Peterson Portable Sawmills have today announced their partnership with Harris Sawing Equipment cc, who will supply the high quality, durable sawmilling machines to South African customers.

Harris Sawing Equipment cc are manufacturers of sawblades for the African market, also supplying products to South America, Germany, Indonesia, Australia, Russia and the UK. They have customers running a range of portable sawmills. In May 2015, when a customer requested 20 swingblade mills, they had no hesitation in recommending Peterson Portable Mills.

“As a company we pride ourselves in producing the highest quality products we can for our customers; quality rather than quantity, so naturally my first choice when responding to our customer’s request was to contact Peterson”, said director Michael Harris.

Peterson Portable Sawmills are the original designer of the commercial swingblade sawmill for portable applications and have been refining their design for 30 years. Their products include full milling packages for a range of uses from part-time milling to productive commercial operations.

Peterson’s factory are currently building the first container load to be shipped to Harris Sawing Equipment, and company CEO Kerris Browne couldn’t be happier with the partnership.

“While we have sold individual mills in South Africa, Petersons have not been represented by a professional entity for over a decade. We certainly knew there was market potential, but hadn’t had a chance to ‘test the waters’ yet. When Michael contacted me with his interest in becoming an agent, I was excited but a little apprehensive based on our previous experiences with South African distributors, but almost immediately I could see that Michael really knew his stuff.”

Mrs. Browne discovered that Harris Sawing Equipment cc had been in business since 1979 with family history in the industry dating back to 1919.

“Michael had initially contacted us because he saw the value in our quality range and mill features and wanted to offer this to his customers. Once he had informed me of his intention to offer outstanding after-sales service to our customers, something we hold in very high regard, I knew we would work well together.”

Mr. Harris has since run local advertisements to test the market, which has eventuated in receiving pre-orders for his first container shipment of Peterson Sawmills, to be delivered in May 2016.

Peterson Production Manager, Chris Browne, will be visiting Mr. Harris in June to provide staff training and to assist with the WoodEX for Africa timber industry trade show being held from 9 – 11 June 2016. Harris Sawing plan to operate the WPF 827 at Stand No.1 in the outdoor exhibition area. Peterson’s Junior Peterson (JP), Winch Production Frame (WPF) and All Terrain Sawmill (ATS) models will also be on display.

From this point on, all Peterson quote requests and purchase orders will go directly to Harris Sawing Equipment, however if you have any feedback or questions regarding our new partnership, please feel free to contact Peterson HQ at: [email protected] or by calling +64 7 348 0863.
