The Sustainable Energy Technology and Research (SeTAR) Centre is a multi-disciplinary research facility that operates under the aegis of the Faculty of Science at the University of Johannesburg located at House number 6, Research Village, Bunting Road Campus, Auckland park, Johannesburg. The mission of the SeTAR Centre is to be a leader in the research and implementation of sustainable energy tech

nologies in South Africa and Africa, operating in accordance with the vision, mission, core values, the principles of corporate governance, the legal and management framework of the University of Johannesburg. The overall goal is to promote research, development and implementation of sustainable energy technologies through technology, social and policy research, public engagement and the promotion of entrepreneurship with all tiers of government. The specific areas of research are:

development, testing and certification procedures for renewable and alternative energy technologies
safe and efficient domestic energy from combustion devices and fuels
energy efficiency in low cost housing
smart technologies for energy efficiency in buildings and cities
spatial planning, energy efficiency and sustainability
transportation energy
solar and renewable energy applications for poverty relief
rural biomass energy use
energy and water
knowledge exchange of energy and sustainability between researchers and government.
