Deploying rangers into the Mwalasi-Bilila confluence in

In August 2015, African Parks signed a 20 year mandate with the Malawi Government to manage Liwonde National Park. This would later lead to one of the greatest turnarounds of a National Park in Malawi's conservation history.

Deployment after deployment, patrol after patrol, rangers regained control over areas riddled with illegal activity. 2020 marked 3 years since an elephant was poached and the removal of over 43 000 wire snares.

Air support played a crucial role in the stabilization of Liwonde, both as a proactive and reactive deployment asset.

WILINDI-MATIPA FOREST CARNAGE

Views from above are, for the most part, enthralling, but sometimes one gets a sudden reality check of the carnage nature endures.

These are pictures of deforestation within the Wilindi-Matipa Forest Complex, often referred to as Malawi's most floristically diverse forest recording over 150 tree species in the Misuku Hills section.

With only 18% of Malawi's population (19 million) able to access to electricity, protected areas in the small African nation face severe levels of pressure from illegal charcoal syndicates in this "war for wood".
