Meet Tyran Ruan Olyn, an HR Assistant Intern from Kathu. With a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Psychology and Organisational Behaviour & Labour Relations Management, Tyran brings a strong understanding of workplace dynamics and people development.

Tyran highlights that Kathu Solar Park’s HR initiatives promote diversity and inclusion through community-focused, skills-based, and equitable employment strategies.

Meet Boikanyo Mokgoje, a Control & Instrumentation Engineer intern from Kuruman. With a BEng Tech in Electrical Engineering from the University of Johannesburg, Boikanyo enters the programme with a keen interest in advanced plant systems and automation.

Boikanyo is particularly excited to work with key instrumentation such as temperature sensors, flowmeters, and control valves, which operate under extreme conditions and are essential for both efficiency and safety. A key area of interest is how these instruments integrate with PLC and DCS systems, enabling real-time monitoring, control, and optimisation of plant performance.

As a recent graduate, Boikanyo sees this internship as an important step into the professional world, offering the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical environment while learning from experienced professionals and developing critical skills.

Meet Romario Javis Jansen, a Mechanical Engineer intern who joins the team with a BTech in Mechanical Engineering. Romario brings a strong interest in understanding the inner workings of complex plant systems.

Romario highlights that preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance are critical to ensuring the efficiency and reliability of a CSP plant like Kathu Solar Park.

During the internship, Romario is looking forward to learning from experienced technicians and engineers, gaining hands-on exposure, and building practical skills that will strengthen his knowledge and experience in the field.

Meet Obakeng Setsijane, an Electrical Engineer intern from Kuruman. With a Diploma in Electrical, Electronics and Computer Engineering, as well as a Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Electrical, Obakeng brings a solid academic foundation to the team.

Obakeng is focused on building the knowledge and confidence required to manage complex electrical systems, including gaining in-depth exposure to substation operations and protective equipment. Through this experience, Obakeng aims to develop the ability to carry out both preventative and corrective maintenance, while also identifying challenges and implementing practical solutions.

Looking ahead, Obakeng is eager to strengthen technical skills through hands-on experience, working alongside skilled engineers and the maintenance team, and contributing to a facility at the forefront of sustainable energy solutions.

Meet Mpho Morwenyane, a Plant Chemist Trainee from Kuruman. With a Diploma in Analytical Chemistry and currently completing a Bachelor’s degree, Mpho brings a growing depth of knowledge in industrial and environmental chemistry.

Working within the water-treatment plant, Mpho emphasises the importance of sustainable water management in minimising the facility’s ecological footprint by ensuring the production of high-quality water for electricity generation.

Through the internship, Mpho looks forward to gaining deeper exposure to industrial chemistry and becoming well-versed in the field, while contributing to the long-term impact that the plant has both locally and globally.

Rebaone highlights that procurement plays a critical role in the success and sustainability of a renewable energy facility like Kathu Solar Park. From ensuring the timely delivery of quality components to managing costs, maintaining compliance, and minimising operational disruptions, effective procurement supports the long-term sustainability of operations.

During the internship, Rebaone looks forward to gaining a deeper understanding of procurement processes within the renewable energy sector, building experience in warehouse management, and contributing to the overall success of the project.
