Meet Boikanyo Mokgoje, a Control & Instrumentation Engineer intern from Kuruman. With a BEng Tech in Electrical Engineering from the University of Johannesburg, Boikanyo enters the programme with a keen interest in advanced plant systems and automation.

Boikanyo is particularly excited to work with key instrumentation such as temperature sensors, flowmeters, and control valves, which operate under extreme conditions and are essential for both efficiency and safety. A key area of interest is how these instruments integrate with PLC and DCS systems, enabling real-time monitoring, control, and optimisation of plant performance.

As a recent graduate, Boikanyo sees this internship as an important step into the professional world, offering the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical environment while learning from experienced professionals and developing critical skills.

Meet Obakeng Setsijane, an Electrical Engineer intern from Kuruman. With a Diploma in Electrical, Electronics and Computer Engineering, as well as a Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Electrical, Obakeng brings a solid academic foundation to the team.

Obakeng is focused on building the knowledge and confidence required to manage complex electrical systems, including gaining in-depth exposure to substation operations and protective equipment. Through this experience, Obakeng aims to develop the ability to carry out both preventative and corrective maintenance, while also identifying challenges and implementing practical solutions.

For many young graduates, Kathu Solar Park’s internship programme is more than just workplace experience — it’s a stepping stone into long-term careers.

“This internship programme truly changed the course of my life… it helped me build practical skills and confidence in the workplace, and connected me with mentors who supported my growth,” says Tlotlo Wildebees, now employed full-time as an Economic Development and Community Coordinator at Rocket.

We’re proud to introduce the young professionals who form part of our internship programme.

Meet Mapheello Matlhoko, a Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Intern from Kuruman. Currently holding a Diploma in Safety Management, Mapheello brings a strong awareness of the importance of workplace safety and well-being.

She believes that Kathu Solar Park’s safety protocols play a vital role in building a strong safety culture. From induction through to regular safety drills, these measures reinforce the importance of prioritising people and creating an environment where everyone feels comfortable to raise concerns.

During the internship, she looks forward to gaining practical experience, learning more about plant operations, and understanding how HSE contributes to the broader functioning of the facility.
