Not all alignment tolerances are equal — and getting this wrong is expensive.
Different machines have different alignment tolerance requirements based on:
⚙️ Running speed (RPM)
⚙️ Coupling type (flexible, rigid, disc)
⚙️ Bearing type and load
⚙️ Machine criticality A motor running at 3000 RPM has far tighter alignment requirements than one running at 300 RPM.
Using generalised tolerance tables without considering machine-specific factors leads to premature failure.

At BiSA, our laser alignment technicians are trained to:
✅ Apply machine-specific alignment tolerances
✅ Consider thermal growth in hot-running machines
✅ Account for soft-foot conditions before alignment correction
✅ Verify alignment at running temperature where required

Precision alignment isn't just pointing a laser — it's applying the right knowledge to the right machine.

Here's the real cost of "run to failure":
💸 Emergency breakdown response costs 3–5× more than planned maintenance
⏱️ Unplanned downtime averages 4–8 hours per incident
🔩 Collateral damage to adjacent components adds significant repair costs
📉 Production losses during the breakdown period
🔄 Repeat failures if root cause is not addressed

The alternative?
A proactive maintenance approach — starting with laser alignment, regular inspections, and lubrication optimisation. BiSA partners with maintenance and engineering teams to shift the balance from reactive to proactive — with practical, on-site field services that make a measurable difference.
Your plant deserves better than run-to-failure.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗲𝗱?

Misalignment rarely announces itself dramatically — it builds up slowly through subtle symptoms.

Here's what to watch for:
🔊 Unusual noise — grinding, rumbling, or cyclic impact sounds
📊 Elevated vibration readings, particularly at 1x and 2x running frequency
🌡️ Abnormal heat generation at bearing housings and couplings
⚡ Increased power consumption on drive motors
🔩 Rapid seal wear or repeated seal failures
🔩 Coupling wear that is uneven or accelerated

If your plant is experiencing one or more of these — misalignment may be the root cause. Our laser alignment team can assess, diagnose, and correct misalignment across your entire drivetrain in a single visit.

While the plant was quiet, your equipment was still working. For many industrial operations, extended shutdowns and holiday periods are actually high-risk moments for rotating equipment. Temperature changes, lubrication settling, and static loads on bearings during extended standstill can create conditions that lead to early-run failures when production restarts.

Our recommendation for post-shutdown restart:
🔹 Verify alignment on critical drives before full-load restart
🔹 Check lubrication levels and condition on all bearing housings
🔹 Monitor vibration during the first hours of operation
🔹 Inspect coupling conditions before energising large drives Starting strong after a shutdown is as important as planned maintenance itself.

BiSA offers rapid-response field services across South Africa to support your plant restart.

𝗜𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱?

Here's why it matters. Imbalance occurs when the mass distribution of a rotating component (like a fan, impeller, or rotor) is uneven relative to its axis of rotation. Even small imbalance creates centrifugal forces that increase dramatically with speed.
The formula is simple: Force = Mass × Radius × Speed²

Which means at high RPM, even a tiny imbalance creates enormous destructive force — directly transmitted into bearings, seals, and structural components.
BiSA's dynamic balancing service:
✅ Identifies and corrects imbalance in fans, impellers, pulleys, and rotors
✅ Performed on-site where possible, minimising downtime
✅ Documented with before-and-after balance reports
✅ Integrated with our laser alignment service for a complete drivetrain solution

Balanced equipment runs smoother, quieter, and longer.

Vibration is not normal. It's a warning. In rotating equipment, vibration is one of the earliest and most reliable indicators of developing faults. Yet too often, maintenance teams accept elevated vibration as "just how the machine runs."
The most common causes of excessive vibration include:
🔴 Shaft misalignment
🔴 Rotor imbalance
🔴 Bearing wear or damage
🔴 Looseness in mechanical connections
🔴 Resonance in the structure or baseplate Left unchecked, vibration accelerates component wear, loosens fasteners, damages seals, and shortens the life of bearings and couplings dramatically.
At BiSA, our balancing and laser alignment services address the root causes of vibration — not just the symptoms. Your equipment is telling you something. Are you listening? 📍 Serving mines, mills, and plants across South Africa. 👉 www.bisagroup.co.za

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗼 — and why does it matter?

Laser alignment is the process of precisely positioning rotating machinery shafts so they run in perfect straight-line condition. It eliminates both angular misalignment (shafts at an angle) and parallel offset misalignment (shafts running parallel but displaced).

Here's what precision laser alignment delivers:
✅ Reduced bearing load and extended bearing life
✅ Lower vibration levels across the drivetrain
✅ Reduced energy consumption (misaligned equipment works harder)
✅ Fewer seal and coupling failures
✅ Longer mean time between failures (MTBF)

Modern laser tools provide real-time digital feedback, allowing our technicians to make precise, repeatable corrections — every time.

At BiSA, our field teams bring laser alignment expertise directly to your plant, on-site, during planned or emergency shutdowns.

𝗠𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻'𝘁 𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗺. They're predictable — and preventable. Research shows that up to 50% of premature bearing failures are directly caused by misalignment. In high-production environments like mining, steel, and cement — that's not just a maintenance issue. That's a production and profitability issue.

When shafts run out of alignment, bearings absorb forces they were never designed to handle. The result? Accelerated wear, increased vibration, heat build-up, and failure — often at the worst possible time.
At BiSA, our laser alignment service eliminates misalignment with precision. We help your plant run longer between failures and reduce the cost of reactive maintenance.
