Biting cold. Early mornings. No shortcuts.
Early mornings in a sandblasting yard present challenges that most people never see.

Before a single coating can be applied, every product's Technical Data Sheet (TDS) requirements must be met. Substrate temperature, ambient temperature, relative humidity, dew point, and the possibility of precipitation are all carefully monitored before work can begin.

The dusty, murky landscape captured in these images is the result of achieving the surface preparation standards required for long-term corrosion protection. Reaching an SA 2½ blast profile demands immense force, precision, and experience. We commonly work to a minimum of 7 BAR at the nozzle, consuming tonnes of abrasive media to create a clean, contaminant-free, water-break-free substrate.

Only then does the real corrosion protection begin.

While most are still warming up for the day, our teams are already suited up in temperature-resistant gloves, full PPE, and focused on delivering the quality our clients expect. Every blast, every profile, and every coating application contributes to extending the life of critical infrastructure.

This is what industrial surface preparation looks like.

This is IPS.

And it's biting cold out here.

Fireproofing Carbon Fibre for Structural Integrity & Safety - by IPS
Today’s retraining session showcased the application of a 70mm cementitious fireproofing layer over supporting mesh - a critical barrier for both integrity strengthening and fire protection.

Achieving a 120-minute fire rating, based on the loading table provided by Wynand Odendaal at Stoncor Africa, this solution demonstrates the robustness required in modern infrastructure.

With growing demand across hospitals, universities, and corporate premises, IPS continues to deliver ISO-affiliated excellence. Backed by our Rock Crete machine, we are ready for action - ensuring safety, compliance, and resilience where it matters most.

Built to Handle the Harshest Chemical Environments

When process equipment is exposed to aggressive chemicals, coating selection and application quality become critical to long-term asset integrity.

IPS recently completed the refurbishment and protection of these PVC chutes used within a Poly Vinyls processing plant. These units form a key part of the loading process and are subjected to demanding service conditions where both corrosion protection and chemical resistance are essential.

Scope of Work:
Abrasive blast cleaning of all internal and external surfaces
Application of 2 coats o
Solvent-Free Epoxy Novolac internally for superior chemical resistance
Application of a zinc-rich three-coat protective coating system externally for long-term corrosion protection
Full quality control inspections throughout surface preparation and coating application

The result is a robust coating system designed to maximize service life, reduce maintenance requirements, and ensure reliable operation in a challenging industrial environment.

At IPS, we understand that successful coating projects are about more than applying paint - they’re about protecting critical assets and ensuring operational reliability for years to come.

Behind the mammoth N1 Mega Sign, IPS is hard at work ensuring the structure retains the same strength it had on Day 1.

Using a 17m boom lift MEWP (our trusted cherry picker), our team is repairing and reinforcing the protective film. Corrosion from UV, weather, and environmental exposure is a slow, silent force - but we’re always one step ahead.

Corrosion protection is not a one-time effort - it requires ongoing maintenance to safeguard assets and structural integrity.

Our crews are incredibly brave, working at height to protect the future of this landmark. Kudos to every member of the IPS team!

At IPS, we believe in protecting today’s assets for tomorrow’s world. If you value long-term structural integrity and future-proof solutions, let’s connect and build together.

This is IPS - For the Future.

Q: What’s in Phuthaditjhaba, Free State?
A: IPS was there, and now we’re back.

Working in the Drakensberg during a cold front, with misty mornings and biting winds, is no small challenge. Yet, it’s no match for the tenacity and resilience of our team.

From the peaks to the valleys, IPS keeps pushing forward - proving that commitment and grit thrive even in the toughest conditions.

Built for the Toughest Environments

When the going gets tough, the tough get going.

At IPS, challenging environments and demanding specifications are exactly where experience, preparation, and disciplined ex*****on make the difference.

Our recent project for Rand Refinery involved approximately 60 tons of structural steel prepared to SA 2.5 and protected with a three-coat high-performance protective system.

Every stage - from surface preparation through to final coating application - plays a critical role in ensuring long-term durability, corrosion resistance, and the continued protection of critical assets.

Projects of this nature demand more than just technical capability. They require planning, coordination, quality control, and teams that understand the importance of delivering under pressure while maintaining the highest safety and workmanship standards.

This project stands as another example of IPS continuing to deliver reliable corrosion protection solutions in environments where performance matters most.

Back on site at Enaex in Secunda this week, where our team has commenced with the reinstatement of the external coating system on two silos and their supporting structures.

This project is focused on restoring long-term corrosion protection and ensuring the assets remain protected against harsh industrial exposure conditions.

Scope of Work Includes:
• High-pressure washing
• Full surface degreasing
• 1 x Coat Epoxy Polyamide – 150 microns
• 1 x Coat Epoxy MIO – 100 microns
• 1 x Coat Polyurethane – 50 microns

All coating applications are being completed in accordance with the applicable SANS colour coding requirements for pressure vessels.

At IPS, we remain committed to delivering quality surface preparation and coating solutions that prioritise durability, compliance, and workmanship excellence.

A big shoutout to our site team for their continued professionalism and commitment to safe ex*****on on every project.
