35 regions. Nine provinces. One Eskom Expo International Science Fair.

From Cape Town to Ehlanzeni, Capricorn to Kimberley, East London to Dr Kenneth Kaunda, young scientists have spent the past few months putting their research to the test.

Now, selected projects will come together at the Eskom Expo International Science Fair, bringing some of the strongest research from across the country onto one exhibition floor.

Different communities. Different questions. Different solutions. One shared passion for discovery.

Final selections will be announced from 10 September. Follow our social media platforms as the Road to ISF begins.

And that’s a wrap on the 2026 Eskom Expo Regional Science Fairs!

After weeks of incredible research, innovation and scientific discovery across South Africa, our Regional Science Fair season has officially come to an end.

A huge thank you to every young scientist, teacher, parent, judge, volunteer, Regional Science Fair committee member, partner and sponsor who contributed to making this year’s events possible.

But the Eskom Expo journey continues. Selections for the Eskom Expo International Science Fair (ISF) are currently underway. Some regions announced selections at their Regional Science Fairs, while others are still finalising their selections.

Please be patient. Final ISF selections will be announced from 10 September 2026 on our social media platforms.

A huge thank you to the judges who volunteered their time and expertise during the 2026 Eskom Expo Regional Science Fairs!

Across the country, our judges engaged with young scientists, assessed their research and provided valuable feedback to help learners strengthen their scientific thinking and research skills.

Your contribution plays an important role in maintaining the quality and integrity of Eskom Expo while encouraging the next generation of scientists, engineers, researchers and innovators.

Scientific research took centre stage at the Eskom Expo Ehlanzeni Regional Science Fair, where young scientists from across the region presented innovative projects that reflected their ability to investigate challenges, test ideas and develop practical solutions.

Hosted at Curro Mbombela in Riverside, on 8 August 2026, the Regional Science Fair featured 190 projects, including group projects, presented by 231 learners in Grades 4 to 12 and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) students NC(V) Level 2-4. Participants advanced to the Regional Science Fair after taking part in a range of Eskom Expo activities throughout the year, including workshops and compulsory District Expos, where they received valuable guidance and feedback from judges, mentors and STEMI professionals.

This year’s projects reflected a wide range of scientific interests and community-focused solutions across the 13 Eskom Expo categories. The most popular category was Engineering, which attracted 50 entries, followed by Social Sciences (29), Energy (18) and Biomedical and Medical Sciences (18).
