NELSPRUIT IRON & STEEL (NIS) was founded in 1985, with the principal purpose of providing structural steel services to clients throughout Mpumalanga, Limpopo and as far afield as Swaziland and Mozambique. During the infancy years, the business operated out of a workshop of no more than 150 m². These humble beginnings rapidly evolved and in 1989, th
e directors took the bold step of developing their own workshop. Today NIS operates out of a building comprising some 1 625m² under roof with ample yard space, making use of its own fleet of vehicles and cranes for transportation and erection. In 2010 Arnold Germishuys became the sole owner of Nelspruit Iron and Steel. He put his life and sole into the company and grew the company to become the leading Steel Construction Company in the region. NIS has been blessed with an extremely competent and dedicated workforce, all with a common goal of remaining the “Go to Structural Steel Company”. NIS can boast at having numerous employees that have given 30 years and more service to the company. With an impressive production capacity and a full complement of machinery, equipment and vehicles, NIS has the resources and expertise to tackle the most challenging structural steel projects. NIS has extensive experience in performing the duties of both Principal and Sub-Contractor. The name Nelspruit Iron and Steel (NIS) has become synonymous with all forms of Structural Steel. Specializing in, Farm Sheds, Workshops, Warehousing, Shopping Centers, Bridges and Hangers, to name but a few. NIS is equally competent to complete the installation of cladding and rain water goods. NIS is a reputable Structural Steel Company and holds integrity in the highest regard. NIS has a reputation of completing all contracts on time and within budget, never hesitating to go the extra mile to achieve the successful completion of all contracts. NIS has the experience and ability of performing “TURNKEY” projects. After consultation with the client, and once we are confident that we fully understand the clients’ needs and requirements we take care of all design and construction issues. All NIS structures are unique in the fact that they are custom designed, thereby ensuring that clients get exactly what they want and do not need to adapt their requirements by making do with a mass produced structure, which does not always suit their needs. NIS can proudly boast to be the company that has changed the Nelspruit sky line more so than any other steel company. Over the past 37 years NIS has arguably been the company that has been involved with more developments in Nelspruit than any other construction company. During the period 1985 to 2015 all “On Site” responsibility fell under the leadership of the very competent Mike De Wet. In 2015 Mike De Wet indicated his intention to retire, a big blow to the company. Malan joined the company in 2016, with the sole purpose of taking over the reins from Mike De Wet. As Malan had worked in the Steel Construction industry he came with his own skills set and within a very short period of time Malan filled the huge boots of Mike. It was clear from the start that Malan had the ability and ambition to take NIS to new heights. On site, he became the face of NIS and handled all site related issues, dealing with all Clients, Architects and Engineers queries. Shortly thereafter, Malan started implementing ground breaking changes in the workshop. At the time this was not part of his job description, but indicated his initiative and leadership. Early in 2021, Arnold made the decision to retire and entered into negotiations with Malan and Armin to take over the company known as NIS. The terms of the agreement were reached and from January 2022 Arnold was no longer holding the reins of NIS. Malan and Armin were in control. With youthful energy and ambition it is clear that under the leadership of Malan and Armin, the company will reach new heights. In the short time since the takeover they have secured a number new clients and contracts. Due to their experience in the agriculture and Macadamia industry they were invited to visit Australia. The visit proved extremely valuable and they are currently in negotiations with a number of potential clients in Australia. The agricultural industry has played a big role in the growth of NIS. Over the years NIS has successfully completed numerous large contracts in the Citrus and Macadamia industry. Mpumalanga has been blessed with the Macadamia explosion. NIS has proudly been the steel contractor on all noteworthy Macadamia expansions. The first phase of green farms, followed by the impressive Marquis processing plant, and the recently completed state of the art Golden Macadamia processing plant. There can be no doubt that under the leadership of Malan the legacy of the company will continue.
