African Pegmatite

African Pegmatite Millers and processors of base minerals. Supply colours to the glass, ceramic & clay industry. Specialised toll millers for all types of minerals.

Producer of water filtration media, foundry & refractory materials. With today’s ever increasing growth in consumer spending, the escalating demand for finished goods is more fervent than ever. African Pegmatite has, over the past forty years, been instrumental in providing base minerals to the manufacturing sector, in order to transform these minerals into finished commodities. These finished com

modities are represented in all sorts of ordinary, yet essential paraphernalia, from coloured glass, bricks and steel, right through to the clean water that flows generously out of your tap

African Pegmatite’s rich history in the minerals industry was born in 1971. It has since been our passion to ensure that our ever expanding product offering would not only accommodate the various markets in the brick, glass, cement, water filtration, agricultural and foundry industries, but that we would also remain at the forefront of the industry. Being located in South Africa, we are able to source materials directly from the mines rather than sourcing from a third party thus saving additional commission fees paid to agents. Agricultural Fungicides

The application of Inorganic, as well as Organic farm approved fungicides for wide spectrums of fruit, vegetables and wheat, have given farmers added production and protection. Fungicides such as Demildex, Copper Oxychloride, Sunshade, Lime Sulphur and Zinc Chloride provide outstanding results for farmers with fungicidal and micro element problems. Brick Pigments

African Pegmatite produces brick colourants, including Manganese and Iron Oxides, which are used by customers on five continents. Specialist low temperature engobe colours have been developed, which are colour fast, producing a wide range of textures and finishes. Forty years of experience and knowledge have aided us in the development of these products. Cement Pigments

Inorganic colourants and umber, which are inexpensive, have become popular within cement and plaster industries, as they allow for fast colouring as well as prevent fading for many decades. Foundry casting

African Pegmatite’s specially designed Coal Dusts for the Cast and Grey Iron Foundries have established benchmarks throughout the world. By providing consistent granulation and composition over the past forty years, we have persuaded our customers that quality and consistency is an essential prerequisite A wide range of chrome sands are available upon request, spanning from 20 to 200 AFS. Glass Pigments

With the extensive qualifications and expertise of the founder, African Pegmatite is a specialist in the production of colour and reductive additives in the container and plate glass industry. African Pegmatite supplies over 35 manufacturers worldwide, including Owens Illinois Glass and its Licensee's. A full variety of colours, from manganese, chrome flour, pyrites, iron oxide, copper oxide and nickel oxide are available. Water Filtration Media

Due to increased population and global warming, there is a growing need for water resources on our planet. This has led African Pegmatite to develop a number of water rectification products, such as Maddox, which allows us to utilize previously unusable Acid Mine’s Water as potable water. This is a landmark achievement in mitigating the water crisis on our planet. Specialised Milling

African Pegmatite specializes in milling various raw materials, our repertoire covers over 200 diverse raw materials, spanning from group 2 explosives, self combusting materials to Chrome and Manganese. No specification is too tough to meet with our own in-house specialist sizing equipment.

The choice of refractory materials is dependent on many factors including - but not limited to - thermal resistance, compressive strength and porosity
These factors are often interdependent and need to be considered in the whole when selecting a refractory material, or compound refractory material.

Crucial to the identity of the refractory material itself is how it performs in elevated temperatures - but this isn’t the only area where a refractory needs to excel.

In ceramic glazes, ground glass replaces expensive fluxes such as sodium and potassium oxides, and causes a mild decrease in firing temperature. The use of ground glass can reduce crazing, and is used in quantities up to 30% by weight.

Addition of glass powders can increase production efficiency, cost and the quality of bricks and ceramic glazes.

One of the leading uses for Maddox catalyst is in bed form for the purification and decontamination of water.
It behaves as a heterogeneous catalyst, removing contaminants such as iron, manganese and hydrogen sulphide by a mechanism of oxidation which is followed by subsequent fine filtration.
Read more about Maddox by clicking the link below:

Maddox is a catalyst produced from pure manganese ore that has been treated in a special furnace using proprietary techniques.

Anthracite is one of the purest and most widely available forms of coal. Its optimal density, hardness and carbon structure make it useful for a variety of applications. Milled anthracite is used as a filler in plastic/hard rubber coatings, containers and casings for high-performance batteries.
For more information on Anthracite visit our website

A different kind of stored energy: far from the traditional application of anthracite as a fuel, it can be ground and incorporated into battery components such as anodes and casings.
