• Melt chemistry and temperature
• Mould integrity and feeding design
• Solidification to prevent shrinkage and defects

Not every casting needs to be complex in shape to be complex in ex*****on.

We recently produced a batch of aluminium bronze (AB) wear plates — simple, rectangular components at first glance, but far from simple in practice.

Aluminium bronze brings a unique set of challenges. Controlling the chemistry is critical to achieve the required mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. Oxidation management during melting and pouring is essential, and gating design must be carefully considered to minimise turbulence and avoid inclusions. On top of that, flat plate geometries demand tight control of solidification to prevent shrinkage defects, distortion, and uneven cooling.

This is where experience makes the difference.

At H&A Castings, we’ve learned that mastering these “simple” geometries builds the discipline needed for more complex work. It strengthens our approach to melt control, mould preparation, feeding systems, and overall process stability.

Because in foundry work, precision in the basics is what enables confidence in complexity.
