First rule of owning an inverter: don't let your battery go from healthy to sulfated!

Sulfation is the formation or build-up of lead sulfate crystals on the surface and in the pores of the active material of the battery's lead plates. If the battery is left unattended, larger crystals will form on the plates, and the battery capacity will begin to reduce as the sulfation builds up until it reaches a stage where the battery no longer works.

To prevent permanent battery sulfation, the lead acid battery will need to be maintained and the recommendations under the storage guidelines need to be followed. To prevent sulfation during storage, the battery must be kept at a charge of at least 12.4 volts and stored in an environment where temperatures do not exceed 24°C.
