🔌 Eskom Extends Free Solar Registration – New Deadline 30 September 2026
Good news for households and businesses with hybrid or grid-tied rooftop solar systems under 100kWp.
Eskom extended its free registration period, originally set to end on 31 March 2026. You now have until 30 September 2026 to register at no cost. Key updates you need to know:
🔹 Who qualifies? Eskom Direct customers with small-scale embedded generation (SSEG) systems under 100kWp – including a new expansion to rural and urban areas for systems under 50kWp.
🔹 What's free? Quotation, connection, and metering fees are all waived.
🔹 What you still need: An electrical Certificate of Compliance (CoC) from a registered electrician, plus an embedded generation test report signed off by a Master or Installation Electrician (proudly offered inhouse @ Greenro Solutions.)
🔹 Prepaid customers: A new prepaid option is being tested – customers may keep their setup or get a free smart meter installed, still qualifying for the cost waiver for systems up to 50kWp.
A few important notes:
⚠️ The free registration only applies to Eskom Direct customers – those under municipal utilities may still face significant fees (sometimes over R10,000).
Whether you want to register before the deadline or simply understand your obligations, navigating the rules can be tricky.
