Some of the most important engineering evidence is invisible to the naked eye.
Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) allows engineers to examine materials at extremely high magnifications, revealing microscopic details that help uncover the causes of fractures, corrosion, wear, contamination, and material failures.

In forensic engineering investigations, SEM plays a critical role by providing high-resolution images that help identify how and why a component failed. In the case of the MV Advance investigation, SEM analysis confirmed that the cast-iron bollard failed through rapid brittle fracture caused by overload, rather than corrosion or fatigue.
