With Higher Education Institutions receiving thousands of applications for placement of students, and unable to enrol many for face-to-face tiution, I think online learning should be expanded to cater for those who cannot be accommodated.
Education, skills and training is crucial to creating employment. Many unemployed are also from rural and remote areas.
Online learning by Higher Learning Institutions should be encouraged especially for theoretical components of the curriculum.
As an ex-Engineering Lecturer and Head of Engineering faculty, and a contracted employee to QCTO, accrediting delivery sites where learners are trained, I am aware that very few Colleges have mobile classes, where they take training to poor and remote rural areas.
On-line teaching and learning can be done for the theoretical components of the curriculum, reducing the face-to-face time required for the practical components and projects, which are then supplemented with workplace training and mentoring.
