Thanks to Ocean Conservancy Polyoak is able to identify the most problematic litter items to tackle. Surprisingly bottle caps and bottles only comprised 14%. Most prolific was ci******es 24%, glass bottles 16%, chip/confectionary wrappers, and take away food 10% each. Just one cigarette butt in seawater for 96 hours releases lethal chemicals that kill 50% of the exposed fish! And 15 billion butts are littered in SA anually! We found three seagulls entangled in fishing gut. Are we focusing on the right things?
