Go for Gold

Go for Gold The Go for Gold Programme is a fully integrated, four-phased programme initiated by the construction sector.

It was established in 1999 in response to the critical shortage of candidates from disadvantaged communities seeking technical qualifications. Our intervention consists of four closely integrated phases:
• Essential mathematics, science, life skills and computer skills development at high school level (Grades 11 and 12)
• a one year job shadowing/internship in the built environment incorporating

essential bridging programmes
• Learnerships or tertiary education in preparation for careers in the built environment
• Employment in the built environment. At each phase the programme addresses the critical skills needed to progress to the next phase and in this way requirements at entry, intermediate and advanced levels, are aligned with the needs of both the participants and the industry partners who will ultimately employ them. The programme is unique and innovative in that it does not focus exclusively on hard skills but simultaneously incorporates other key success factors such as life-skills and communication training and mentoring. The programme ethos is based on instilling a positive outlook on life and the conviction that each individual has the potential and ability to achieve. Go for Gold also awards BBBEE scorecard benefits to companies who partner with Go for Gold. Contact karen(at)goforgold.org.za for more information.

What an incredible turnout at yesterday’s Women in Construction Breakfast 2026 at the Master Builders Association Western Cape in Rondebosch! 🏗️✨

It was an inspiring morning dedicated to honoring the extraordinary women shaping our industry—celebrating those who overcome hurdles, break barriers, and lead with unwavering strength.

A special thank you to our guest speaker, Michelle Marco. As a Go for Gold alumnus, her powerful story and speech were nothing short of inspiring, leaving a lasting impression on everyone in the room. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to Bridget for bringing the event to an empowering close.

Congratulations and thank you to all the ladies who attended and continue to make a real difference in the construction sector every day. You are building the future! 💪🛠️

(P.S. Apologies for the slight crackling sound in some of the audio in the video!)

Tonight is the highlight of the Go for Gold calendar – our Annual Industry Fundraising Dinner at Spyced Restaurant, V&A Waterfront.

We are honoured to welcome some of South Africa’s most respected construction and manufacturing companies as they come together to celebrate the impact of investing in young people and building the future workforce of the built environment.

Together, we are celebrating the achievements of talented youth who have overcome barriers to pursue careers as engineers, quantity surveyors, project managers, technicians and other technical professionals through Go for Gold’s Education-to-Employment Programme.

To our 34 partner companies: thank you for making these success stories possible. Your commitment continues to transform lives while strengthening the future of our industry.
