From one woman to another, one sister to another, what makes us different???
There's still a lot of discrimination towards the next person based on the colour of our skin. A question, doesn't the lady have any Coloured colleagues, Coloured Customers etc locally and nationally? I don't wish something like this on my worst enemy.....as hectic as this is, I pray for love and peace amongst us all.

I spent time this afternoon in DuNoon assessing the fire damage.

I found our City Disaster Risk Management staff on site, and as they always do, managing the response professionally and with care. I thank Mr Johannes, Mr Henry, Mrs Lategan, Mr Pluke and their teams.

As always, our wonderful NGO partners Gift of the Givers were also on site distributing warm food and water. I thank Mr Sablay and his team.

City staff are reconnecting water and are working with Eskom to reconnect power. City Waste Management is also beginning to remove damaged and unusable material from the site to ease the rebuilding effort.

It was clear from the density of the structures that Cape Town Fire Services did a remarkable job extinguishing this fire, and several of the community confirmed this.

Fortunately there were no fatalities, but there were around 120 structures destroyed and around 440 people have been displaced.

Around 400 of these were accommodated last night at 3 church halls in the area, or at the homes of family and friends. Our staff are working to ensure the 40-50 people without alternative accomodation are accommodated this evening, and will assist with transportation where necessary.

City Human Settlements staff are working with staff from the National Department of Human Settlements to deliver reconstruction kits as soon as possible. We thank the National Department for their co-operation in making this as speedy as possible.

I was also informed of two families who have sons returning from initiation school in the next couple of days, who have lost everything. I am waiting for the details of these families and will try to assist however we can.
