Investing in Knowledge Through the SOMTA Academy 👏

Over the past few training sessions, we had the pleasure of welcoming multiple groups to our Level 1 Drilling Fundamentals Training, with both morning and afternoon sessions filled with delegates eager to expand their technical knowledge and practical understanding of drilling applications. These sessions resulted in over 100 attendees taking part in the training.

The training provided attendees with a solid foundation in drilling fundamentals, including how to select the correct tooling for different applications, understand product performance, and confidently recommend the right solutions to their customers. By equipping sales and technical professionals with practical product knowledge, we're helping them better support manufacturers and deliver greater value to every customer interaction.

A big thank you to everyone who attended and made each session a success. We look forward to welcoming even more professionals to future SOMTA Academy training sessions.

June was Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month. Research shows that men are often less likely to seek help for mental health challenges, despite experiencing significant levels of stress, anxiety, depression, and other emotional difficulties. Creating spaces where men can openly connect and support one another can play a valuable role in promoting wellbeing and resilience.

That's why Somta’s Peer Counsellors established the Somta Men’s Support Group - a safe and supportive space where men can connect, share their experiences, and encourage one another. The group serves as a reminder that no one has to face life's challenges alone, and that asking for support is a sign of strength, not weakness.

To celebrate Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month and Father's Day, members of the Men's Support Group recently enjoyed a day out in Pietermaritzburg, providing an opportunity to build stronger connections, enjoy fellowship, and create shared memories outside of the workplace. We are incredibly proud of initiatives like the Somta Men's Support Group that foster genuine connection, encourage meaningful conversations, and promote the wellbeing of our employees.

At just 21 years old, Ziphozethu is in his third year at Somta, having joined us through the Somta Learnership Programme. His journey reflects the power of investing in youth development, skills transfer, and creating opportunities for the next generation.
