The Mzansi EV Truck Supertest 2026 paid a visit to uYilo at Nelson Mandela University in Gqeberha, on their way from Cape Town to Durban. The crew were welcomed by uYilo staff, with great interest in the design and layout, as well as the experience of the trip so far.

uYilo Programme Manager Edem Foli participated in the LEAP (Leapfrogging to Zero Emission Transport in Africa) Think Tank Accelerator Needs Analysis Workshop in Cape Town, hosted by Agora Verkehrswende.

The LEAP project aims to accelerate vehicle fleet electrification in Kenya, South Africa, and Senegal, alongside wider co-operation across Africa. LEAP is implemented by GIZ in partnership with Agora Verkehrswende and UNEP, together with country partners: the Africa E-Mobility Alliance (AfEMA), the Executive Council for Sustainable Urban Transport (CETUD), and Trade & Industrial Policy Strategies (TIPS).

The workshop brought together policy think tanks, organisations, and stakeholders to identify the skills, expertise, and institutional support they need to advise policymakers on electric mobility adoption.

These inputs will inform the design of the Think Tank Accelerator programme.

Edem Foli represented uYilo at E-Mobility Week & Forum 2026, participating in a panel discussion on “Creating Investment and Innovation Hubs for a Growing E-Mobility Ecosystem in Africa.”

The discussion explored how Africa can strengthen its e-Mobility ecosystem by moving from being primarily a consumer of imported technologies to a producer and innovator.

Edem shared insights from the uYilo model, highlighting the importance of connecting research, testing infrastructure, skills development and enterprise support to help move e-mobility technologies and innovations towards commercialisation.
