Meet one of our expert advisors, Dr Rudi van Wyk.

Dr van Wyk specializes in providing bioinformatic support, analysis and the construction of pipelines within the Omics data space, from NGS data to proteomics and the integration thereof through network-based methods. He has vast experience in machine learning and intricate analysis such as scRNA-seq cell 2D organisation with tools featuring algorithms such as t-SNE or UMAP or the construction of gene regulatory networks, using gradient boosting or bayesian inference methods. SNP calling from genomic sequence and/or GWAS from SNP variant data is also supported. A full scope for bespoke data analysis with consultation and support/planning is another key offering. Expertise from a data engineering perspective includes the setup of SQL databases to manage data, preprocessing of Omics data such as read mapping in NGS and warehousing of all data.

How do you feel about genetically engineered foods?

Genetically modifying crops has been a long-standing process happening for thousands of years through selective breeding, cross pollination, cell and tissue cultures and more recently mutagenesis.
