25 February 2026, 14:00-16:00 (CET)

The Global Health EDCTP3 Work Programme 2026 includes two calls for Coordination & Support Actions (CSA) based on Lump Sum Funding:

HORIZON-JU-GH-EDCTP3-2026-03-DIGIT-02
Enhancing integrated research and healthcare in sub-Saharan Africa through digital innovation and Artificial Intelligence

HORIZON-JU-GH-EDCTP3-2026-03-SERP-01
Training and innovation networks for sustained capacity development related to ethics, regulatory, pharmacovigilance, and related digital regulatory platforms

For these two CSA calls, consortia interested in applying may opt to include the EDCTP Association as the proposal’s coordinator. As coordinator, the EDCTP Association can offer technical support in preparing the proposal, especially considering the lump sum nature of the Grant Agreement. The Association will also facilitate communication between the consortium and Global Health EDCTP3, ensure prompt payment distribution to beneficiaries, submit necessary reports, and oversee the effective coordination of funded networks with the Scientific Project Leader.

This information session aims to provide applicants with further details about the calls and the lump sum funding.

SFSA PANEL DISCUSSION: South Africa–European Union Dialogue on Science Diplomacy: Advancing Transcontinental Collaborati...

SFSA PANEL DISCUSSION: South Africa–European Union Dialogue on Science Diplomacy: Advancing Transcontinental Collaboration, 28 November 2025, 10:30 to 11:45, CSIR ICC, Pretoria

As part of the Science Forum South Africa (SFSA) 2025 programme, the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI) will host a panel discussion titled “South Africa–European Union Dialogue on Science Diplomacy: Advancing Transcontinental Collaboration” on 28 November 2025, from 10:30 to 11:45, at the CSIR ICC in Pretoria.

The DSTI highlights the vital role of Science and Economic Diplomacy in addressing South Africa’s socio-economic challenges. While the National System of Innovation (NSI) has made significant progress over the past two decades, it has yet to fully realise its potential in supporting national development priorities and inclusive economic growth. Enhanced international cooperation, particularly through science diplomacy, is a strategic tool to strengthen the NSI, mobilise resources, build capacity, and foster innovation ecosystems aligned with national and continental agendas.

At the continental level, the African Union (AU) is increasingly embedding science diplomacy within its strategic framework, using science, technology, and innovation (STI) to address challenges such as climate resilience, health security, and sustainable food systems. These efforts bridge the gap between science and policy, strengthen collaboration between scientists and diplomats, and advance continental priorities.

This panel discussion provides a unique opportunity for South Africa and the European Union (EU) to deepen collaboration in science diplomacy, leveraging shared strengths to promote development, peace, and global solidarity. Through this dialogue, participants will gain practical tools, partnerships, and insights to advance joint science diplomacy objectives.

This panel discussion is part of the SFSA 2025 programme. Attendance is free, but registration is required. ➔ Register to attend: https://www.sfsa.co.za/registration

SFSA SIDE EVENT: Celebrating 20 Years of ESASTAP as a Vehicle to Promote Science Diplomacy

ESASTAP will host a side event titled “Celebrating 20 Years of ESASTAP as a Vehicle to Promote Science Diplomacy” at the Science Forum South Africa 2025. The event will take place 24 November 2025, from 14:30 to 17:30, at the CSIR International Convention Centre (CSIR ICC) in Pretoria.

This year marks two decades since the establishment of the ESASTAP platform. To commemorate this milestone, the event will reflect on ESASTAP’s journey from its inception to the present, highlighting how it has advanced Science Diplomacy and supported South Africa’s participation in European Union programmes. It will also celebrate South Africa’s involvement in key EU initiatives such as COST, illustrating the benefits of international collaboration through the SA-EU Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) cooperation.

The session will offer valuable insights into how ESASTAP has strengthened SA-EU relations, promoted the participation of South African researchers, and contributed to science diplomacy within the National System of Innovation (NSI).
