At Robot Explorers we begin our robotics journey with various themes to introduce the youngsters concepts of mechanical principals, structures and forces. After the Early Simple Machines course, kids move on to the WeDo course where they build LEGO models featuring working motors and sensors, connect them to a computer and use a simple tool to program behaviour. They work with a series of cross-c

urricular, theme-based activities and develop skills within science, technology, engineering, mathematics as well as language and literacy. From 8 years of age they do the Mechanical systems course which focuses on the mechanical side of engineering and your robot. We examine the 6 simple machines: pulleys and gears, levers, wheels and axles, wedges, incline planes, screws as well as structures and forces. This is the foundation of your robot where the fun never stops! We teach you how to build various contraptions and make them come alive. Once a child has mastered Mechanical Systems they can start programming!!!! From around age 10 we use the LEGO Mindstorm system to introduce students to robotics and programming in an awesome yet practical way. The course focus on developing programming logic, problem solving, team work and design. We use a very easy yet powerful drag and drop program (Labview) to create logic for your robot with input and output processing and a control system. Children also get the chance to compete in the FLL and WRO competitions!
