Victron in the Attic!

I re-visited one of our installations from about 5 years ago. Seems so simple and plain!

The BlueSolar MPPT dropped off the VRM for some unknown reason....

I took all DC off the MPPT, unplugged the VE.Direct cable from it and waited for the LED's shut down. I re-booted the MPPT, and Voila... All back to normal

The next in our series of good to know facts about solar installations.

We installed a large quantity of unknown no-name-brand solar panels. We found 5 out of 280 not working at all.

This is the opened Junction Box on the back of one of the faulty new solar panels.

Note the broken leads, and poor "dry" solder joint (top right).

I believe not all solar panels are created equally!

Only buy from reputable suppliers and avoid panels/manufacturers not rated.

We'll do another "Good to know" on Solar Manufacturer Tier rating and panel certification soon.

Good to Know #4

This is a 100A rated fuse (AC) in a 160A rated (AC) fuse holder.
It was used between a 5kVA inverter and battery (DC).
The fuse seriously overheated and burned the fuse-base, despite the base rated at 160A.

This demonstrates the intensity of DC power VS AC power. NEVER use AC rated breakers, isolators or fuses in DC circuits. Something might catch alight!
