Build. Test. Return to service.

A hydraulic cylinder workshop can become much more than a repair facility when the right assembly and testing capability is in place.

A properly equipped operation can handle the cylinder through critical stages of the process:

• Assembly and disassembly
• Component and seal installation
• Controlled tightening and alignment
• Hydraulic testing
• Leakage verification
• Cylinder flushing
• Test documentation

The testing stage is particularly important.

A repaired or newly assembled cylinder should not simply leave the workshop because it looks correct.

It should be tested under controlled conditions before being returned to equipment or delivered to a customer.

For mining and construction operations, this capability can support in-house maintenance and component-rebuild activities.

For hydraulic workshops, it can expand the services offered to customers.

For an entrepreneur entering the hydraulic-cylinder service market, it can provide the foundation for a dedicated cylinder assembly, repair and testing business.

The equipment can also be configured around different operating requirements, from manual and semi-automatic assembly to automated production systems and dedicated testing equipment.

The commercial opportunity is not simply selling a machine.

It is helping an operation develop the capability to:

ASSEMBLE → TEST → DOCUMENT → RETURN TO SERVICE

That can mean greater control over turnaround, stronger quality assurance and a more professional service offering.

This type of capability is relevant to:

Mining companies
Construction companies
Hydraulic repair workshops
Component-rebuild facilities
Equipment dealers and service centres
Hydraulic-cylinder manufacturers
New businesses entering the hydraulic service market

Sales Connect connects Southern African industrial requirements with specialist equipment and technology providers.

If you are developing or upgrading a hydraulic-cylinder service operation, this is a capability worth evaluating.

A rail weld is not finished when the welding cycle ends.

The subsequent trimming, finishing, inspection and quality-control stages are critical to achieving the required rail geometry and weld quality.

𝗙𝗠𝗨 𝗙ö𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗹𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗻𝗯𝗮𝘂 𝗨𝗺𝘄𝗲𝗹𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗸 𝗚𝗺𝗯𝗛 is an 𝗔𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘆 specialising in customised industrial machinery and systems for demanding production and maintenance environments.

One example is FMU’s 𝟳𝟱𝟬 𝗸𝗡 𝗥𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀.

The machine is designed to remove welding burrs from rail joints with controlled hydraulic force and repeatable processing, including demanding operating conditions and different rail applications.

FMU also develops railway machinery for 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗱 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴, incorporating automation, operator protection and process data capture into the system concept.

This is particularly relevant because EN 14587-1 establishes requirements for the approval and production of flash-butt-welded rails in fixed plants, including inspection, weld finishing, dimensional control and mechanical testing.

For rail manufacturers and railway infrastructure operators, the equipment supporting the welding process must contribute to:

Consistent weld finishing
Controlled and repeatable processes
Rail geometry and quality verification
Operator safety
Process documentation and traceability
Reliable production in demanding industrial environments

FMU’s broader railway portfolio includes specialised rail-handling and production systems, demonstrating its capability to engineer equipment around specific industrial requirements rather than relying only on standard machinery.

Handling railway rails requires equipment designed specifically for the rail profile and the conditions under which the rail is being lifted.

FMU Förderanlagen Maschinenbau Umwelttechnik GmbH has developed its 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗥𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝗧𝗼𝗻𝗴𝘀 for this application.

One of the important features is the mechanically spring-loaded safety mechanism. When long rails are lifted with multiple tongs, rail movement and oscillation can create additional challenges during handling.

FMU's design uses safety levers that help prevent the jaws from opening unintentionally. Releasing the tong requires both safety levers to be operated simultaneously.

The tongs are designed for several established rail profiles, including S49, UIC54 and UIC60, with versions available for different rail configurations, including profiles with a milled rail head.

This is a good example of why specialist industrial equipment matters.

The objective is not simply to lift the rail.

It is to provide a controlled and purpose-designed method of handling the rail while considering the geometry of the rail and the safety requirements of the lifting operation.

FMU's railway portfolio extends beyond rail tongs into rail handling, roller conveyor systems, insulated rail-joint production equipment and other specialised railway machinery.

𝗜𝘀 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗣𝗣𝗘 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗬𝗼𝘂... 𝗢𝗿 𝗔𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝗬𝗼𝘂?

Every shift begins with people collecting the equipment they need to work safely.

But how those items are issued can make a significant difference to inventory visibility, accountability and day-to-day operations.

Many industrial organisations still rely on conventional PPE stores and manual issuing processes.

As operations grow, maintaining visibility of inventory, product movement and stock availability becomes increasingly challenging.

Imagine having a system where:

• Every withdrawal is digitally recorded.
• Every return is traceable.
• Access is limited to authorised users.
• PPE and MRO materials are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
• Inventory levels are monitored in real time.
• Product movement is visible through integrated software and reporting.

This isn't simply about dispensing PPE.

It's about creating a controlled process for managing PPE, MRO materials, Lockout/Tagout equipment and selected industrial consumables.

The result is:

• Controlled distribution
• Product traceability
• Real-time inventory visibility
• User accountability
• Optimised stock management
• Reduced waste
• Simplified inventory management
• 24/7 equipment availability

Industrial organisations are rethinking how critical PPE and MRO materials are managed.

Sales Connect is preparing to introduce intelligent industrial inventory management solutions to organisations across Southern Africa.
